can this pump be salvaged?

agreed. get a new pump. I'm not a fetishest who worries about replacement parts being "original" .
If I wanted a pump or filter or accumulator I would research all that would do the job and easy to slip in. -but then I might also use VW or Briggs and Stratton valves

Bosch says..for CIS cars -
Fuel Pump 0 580 254 984 > 6/80

Pumps that go 0580 464 xxx are listed for LH systems, BUT they will work - my CIS car ran for 10 years with an LH pump, performed fine, in a hot climate - ie they will give you enough flow and system pressure.
