Car is hibernating until spring. Daytime temps today expected to get up into the tropical-teens after overnight temps near zero. Performance driving/testing is not an option right now.

I'll be thinking about you this weekend as I'm driving mine.

Hi John, and thanks for the kind thoughts. There are certainly pluses and minuses with the move from SoCal to central Oregon. I only need to drive a short ways to get to the ski areas. Just can't do it in the 928 in the winter months.
I did a few mountain trips from SoCal to my place in Mammoth Lakes, but only once did I get into some very early-season snow. No episodes on that trip other than the need for some serious cleaning when it got home. The cars do very well in winter, and I could undoubtedly drive mine with the AS3's on it for more of the year here. But no reason to expose it to the deicer and cinders that ODOT applies to their highways.

Hey guys,
It seems my somewhat new to me 88 S4 has 2.54 gears in it. This car is certainly a US spec car, as I have the original bill of sale. I also have just about all the maintenance records, however there is a gap from about 94-97.
Is it possible this car came from the factory with this ratio? Otherwise, where are the transmission / final drive numbers on the case?
....or am I just missing something painfully obvious

Not from the factory.

I tried to get the numbers off the bottom of the housing, but I didn't lift the car, and couldn't get a good shot. They almost look missing.

Once the weather warms up a bit I'll dig deeper. That's the right location per the service manual. I'll do some betterrific cleaning any figure it out for sure.
