Telltale Signs of Auto to Manual Conversion..?

Mark, I wouldn't be to bummed. It's still a somewhat unusual color S4 5 speed! If it's not a low mileage example in pristine condition I don't that it really matters about it being converted and unless someone was specifically looking for that type car I think the value is still there. It sounds like whoever did the conversion did a nice job to include swapping instrument cluster to correct one.
I would buy it and enjoy driving it! Heck, if I hadn't just bought the 88 no sunroof LSD auto I would be interested if you were to pass on it.

As a conversion it warrants a much more careful inspection, and even if everything seems to check out fine a substantial ding in the price. Still shouldn't stop you going after it if its what you want.

As someone who has converted 2 cars I disagree. the only difference is the slave mount on the firewall. All of the parts are factory Porsche and there is no factory registry regarding manual vs auto.

A converted car should woth less than the same car that came from the factory with a stick shift.

OK, so the car is a "trans" gender (it's a five speed now, but it was not born that way). ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
And that is certainly a new wrinkle, but that wouldn't stop me from purchasing the car.
I value a converted manual over an automatic, but not as much as a manual with a full pedigree.
The bigger problem is the owner thinks it is worth MUCH more than it is, in its current state.
So we'll just have to see how all of that shakes out...

You still have the question of what year , syncro style transmission was put into the car..... what clutch style etc. etc. And yes it will be valued less by most people.

I would not expect it to be valued less than an automatic (if it's been done well).
