Anyone ever make an alternate S4+ muffler?

Borja makes some nice options. I have a single 2.5" inlet with 2 outlets 1.5" each. It looks and sounds good. Borla also makes 2in 2 out that would be my preference. Check out the Borla website for details.
EDIT - go to summit racing.com for a good searchable utility of borla mufflers. Ultimately what you get will depend on the size of your inlet pipes. I don't know the diameter of the OEM pipes but I would bet they are 2" to 2.25". And then of course you would need to have it installed which may require welding.
There may be some bolt on units too. My unit is not a bolt on.

Someone with even horrible welding skills could have some fun taking an RMB, filling it full of holes, welding a box around it stuffed with fiberglass.
If I had an RMB, a welder and horrible welding skills I'd be tempted to give it a try.

Actually, Supersprint made a couple of exhaust systems for the S4/GTS. It was somewhat pricey but doable and was distributed by 911UK. One was a single tip system and one was a conversion to have a split, dual exhaust tip on both sides of the the car. It required modding the lower RHS rear cover for the extra exhaust tip, which I did when I had my S4 re-sprayed. I then ordered a unit and it was NLA. That sucked.

We designed and made a short run of lightweight stainless steel 928 "Sport" mufflers for S4 and GTS models. They were designed to work with the stock exhaust system to give owners another option other than using an RMB, which many found to be too loud with some felt loss of grunt at lower RPMs, and the stock "too quiet" heavy mufflers.
They worked well to keep the noise down around town and normal highway driving, but made a great sound when the pedal went down.
Picture attached and they were sold out within a week.

As I am aware both Roger and Carl do custom exhaust systems.
Some of us have made our own. My system came about when I migrated to Louie's X pipe. This removes the first box altogether and with a RMB the pissy little resonator on the 90 S4 and GT models is simply too loud for comfort. Louie recommended retention of the RMB and modifying the centre section by removing the resonator and fitting a Bullet muffler which I duly did. Removes quite a bit of weight and has a superb sound, not too loud/harsh but difficult to hide the fact that one is in the neighborhood.
I reckon the X pipe is the bit one really needs- the rest is more grin factor than power adder or so I suspect.

Wanted to concentrate on torque tube products for other Porsche models at the time.
The 928 "Sport Mufflers" was something I always wanted to design try to fill the gap between the RMB and stock muffler. Found a custom muffler fabricator and got it done for a short run. Never thought of it as a product line.
Will look into doing another run and report back.

Our '88 S4 went from stock to RMB (quite loud but sounded great), then to X-pipe (too loud and unpleasantly harsh), then switched to the larger mid-resonators (only slightly better), re-fit the stock rear muffler (boring), then a gutted rear muffler (back to harsh with some unpleasant resonances). And then we got one of Constantine's rear mufflers, close to perfect! It's got a sharper and louder "bark" at idle and around town compared to our GT, but not objectionable, and doesn't get as loud as the GT when you stand on it.
Greg Brown's exhaust systems sound great also, the same sort of mellow/authoritative growl at idle and cruising that our GT has, and not as loud when wound out.

From what I am hearing,
You are looking to see if anything that was previously made is still in stock. My guess is the answer to that question is no. You might want to hit up some wreckers that are Rennlist sponcers, to see if they have a pulled system from a wreck that is ready to be used.
Magnaflow makes all of the necessary parts to build a "like stock" header to back system. You will need to figure out the parts using their online tool and have the idea in mind when you go to a certified shop to get the install completed. Plan on leaving it there for a few days while they work through more common jobs that take the front burner.
Midas will do it from scratch but you will pay more in labor as they will bend the tubes and weld up the hangers as needed. Not many of these cars see shops anymore likely taking even more time for Midas to complete.
Stainless is obviously going to cost you more. A certified Magnaflow shop can order pre-bent pieces ready to assemble. Midas is going to be a complete one-off job at this point. A Magnaflow shop has more pre-built available options than Midas ever will. That is a huge change over the past 20+ years!!

What came of this? Would you consider making any more S4 mufflers? Those of us with the stock sound are wanting something with better sound.
