Default S4 Small TB Idler Pulley Removal

I'm referring to the one that is mounted horizontally right above the oil pan.

Any tricks on getting this little guy off the motor? I removed the two circlips on the arm, and the one on the roller. Can't get the arm off the block or the roller of the arm.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Adam, I had a bit of trouble with mine, too. I think it was because of the accumulation of oily residue down there.

What I did was to warm up the bearing and arm with a heat gun (paint stripper) and heated up some "penetrating oil" (I used LIQUID WRENCH) on the stove. I actually got it pretty darned HOT. Then I used a turkey baster to wash down the area, trying to get it all over that axle-pin as I worked the arm. Eventually it let go and slipped off.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bryan,

I like the preheated liquid wrench idea. I'll get some heat and penetrating oil on it and give it another go. Amazing how much gunk and corrosion there is down there, makes me wonder where it all came from.

Just went through the same thing. I removed mine with handle puller. The kind to remove faucet handles. I'm sure I paid under $10 at Lowes. The arms are thin enough to get behind the roller and the drive part is small enough to fit in the middle without interfering with acutally roller itself. At the time I didn't care if it ruined the wheel, cuz I was replacing it. You may want to consider replacing it too. After I got it off though, no damage.

With the handle puller, you also tackle those leaky faucits.

Good luck,

Rez
