New 928 & Con-rod Bearings
Hello all,
I just bought an 82' 928 with an auto. It has 130,000 miles on it.
I have had a ton of 944's. They require con-rod bearing at 120,000 miles. Since there is a connection between the two engines, do the 928 engines require con-rod bearing at 120,000 as well?

Generally no. I've replaced rod bearings twice whilst doing pan gaskets. Complete waste of time and money. There was very little if any wear showing, but at the time I did it, it seemed to be the WYAIT thing to do. I would never do it again unless the individual engine warranted it, and then, it would be extremely high mileage (>300K+?)

What are some weak spots that I should keep an eye on?

Water pump. Timing belt tension. Electrical system. Specifically, clean all the grounds. The Work Shop Manual (WSM) has the complete list and locations. Replace all the soft fuel lines. Roger@928sRus sells an upgraded kit

If you are going to re-use the original bearings, there is no point in measuring them.....as long as they are going back in the same exact position on the same exact cylinder.
