That is what I am seeing as well. The fuel cell is dated 1992, and I believe the fire system is close. The seats and harnesses I have were the same ones in the Excellence article, although the seats have been recovered.
My guess is that sometime after the Excellence article, Devore decided to go full track car. Here is a pic of when he finished it, taken in AZ.

Yes, I found it really humorous that Carl has more experience building 928 race engines than I do....like maybe 1/20 of the ones I've built.
And all my engines are naturally aspirated....Carl's has a supercharger.....completely opposite of what the owner of this car wanted.
Personally, I think it is going to be great fun to have one of Carl's engines on the West Coast!

Last time I checked, I was paying for the motor. And the guy I chose was Carl. No offense, but I have never heard of you and we live in the same county. Maybe you'll get the next one, but for right now, Carl's the man, and let's leave it at that.
I don't want this thread to devolve into a dick measuring engine builder contest.

Yes. Bob lived in nor Cal I believe when he bought the 928. It may have been new but I didn't know him then. We did have the same mechanic named Bud Hart which some of you here may recognize. I don't think it was until Bob moved to AZ that he retired it from the street and got crazy. He did buy a gold euro car to replace it as his street car.
Some reference to the Devore car here:

While we are on the topic, what NA horsepower have your builds achieved?

Here's a good start, Cliff notes version is ~610 crank hp, N/A:

^That's pretty good. I did not know that when I said "highest horsepower NA build". I don't think my motor will make 610 crank nor have we tried to get that much.
This honestly was not my prime goal here, and I don't want to distract the thread with that kind of rhetoric.
Keep in mind that in order for me to get 500whp in my Camaro, all I needed was to add a big cam, port and polish, a cold air intake, and a tune. That's it. It cost me about 3K to get that on my 6.2 LS3. That car currently makes almost 1000 hp.
I currently own 6 Porsches, and honestly, the 928 is really in the middle as far as power of my cars go. I love 928s, but I am not a Porsche fanboy by any stretch. This will be a nice strong car with ridiculous levels of mechanical grip due to the huge tires, unparalleled on any 928 I know of.
Let's move on!

Forget horsepower....look at torque.
Where does that engine start to make over 400 ft lbs? Now look at the gear ratios in a 928. What rpm range does a 928 engine operate in?
928 V8 power is way different from 911 power....
BTW....I love that you are "rescuing" this car.
Kudos to you!

Three Wheelin'
Are you building a 2 or 4 valve engine? Kind of hoping it stays 2 valve and period correct. Bob supposedly had some outrageous numbers for his engine builds.

Since you are a self professed 911 guy, let me give you a very important clue about 928 engine success.

Also I have half a 928 engine in my 951 so I am pretty familiar with the water pumpers.
