I asked it before but I think it got lost in the replies. Who knows where the stock bias valve is supposed to be on a 928? Want to see if I still have one.

Thanks!

Early car had two....on the fire wall. The brakes were plumbed right front and left rear on one 1/2 of the master left front right rear on the other. The ABS cars had one on the abs unit left side near radiator. They had front brakes on one 1/2 of master, rears on the other smaller front 1/2 of the master.

Default Engine Bay Cleanout

With the rain stopped, it was time to address the filthy engine bay. I scrubbed it out with a wire brush and degreaser until it was clean.

Like any race car, you can see the results of failed experiments. There are many, many holes in the sides for plumbing that is no longer there.

Cool catch can in the corner, with a drain in the fender well. I'll be keeping this on the car for sure.

Put in the clutch master and slave (slave is obviously loose for now). Man, is the access to the clutch master poor or what. I am 6'-3" and 230 and I can barely fit in the foot well even with the seat removed. If you ever did this job in a street car with the engine still in the car, my hat goes off to you!

Installed the new booster and master cylinder. It's actually an upgrade; the early cars have a 9" booster to the S4 10" booster. Me and my buddy 5 lb sledge made short work of stretching the fender out to accommodate the larger booster.

Everything is new and shiny!

Was the strange steering shaft already discussed?

Those are just test fit for now right? Aren't you gonna do the same high quality repaint that you did the calipers? :-)

Tell me about it? I haven't owned a 928 for 12 years before this. What looks odd?

There's normally a rubber guibo/vibration de-coupler in the middle of the steering shaft:

Interesting. That's more or less like the shaft on my 914 and 911; little rubber puck in the middle to help with NVH.

What is interesting is that the shaft on my 951 is basically a direct copy of the one in the 928 - no dampener of any kind.

No rubber puck in the 924/944/951/968 steering shaft. Must have been adding lightness, and precision.

Default Brake pedal issue

So yesterday I mocked up the new booster, and today I went to fasten it down. I found that the shaft coming out of the booster was a good couple inches shorter than the old one, meaning the clevis screw on end would not contact the brake pedal properly. The first picture shows the gap, even with the brake pedal depressed slightly.

The part I ordered is an S4 booster, so I am thinking there must be some pedal geometry difference between an early and late car, or some other Devoreism with this car. It's a 1978, and not only that, you just never know with the Devore car whether it was made like that on purpose, or scabbed together from parts.

So I had to make a new clevis end. I made mine out of 6061 T6 forged aluminum which is plenty strong in this application. Mine is beefier than the original because it is longer.

So problem solved. Last pic is of the clevis mounted.
