Default Electric hatch release

The electric hatch release works but it doesn't stop until I unplug it and when I do plug it back in it keeps running.

Depending what year car you have the 1 amp fuse is blown - try #26 or post the year of your car as it really helps us help you.

No those aren't the symptoms of that failure. If that fuse is blown the motor will stop as soon as you release the pull switch (e.g. more or less the opposite problem where the parking circuit never runs Vs. always runs).

In this case there is a defect in the motor itself. Either the connection track for the self parking has smeared across the parking gap. Or rather more likely the brake transistor is fried. There is a documented fix thread for this (transistor replacement) - or you can avoid the future hassles by replacing the whole motor with a better in every way VW actuator - threads on this also. I recommend the latter.

Of course in the short term you can remove the 1A fuse and at least it won't run all the time

Another vote for swapping the stock hatch release with a VW unit. You will have to do a bit of fabricating, but the time spent will still be less than what you will consume fiddling with the original hatch motor. If you go the VW route, get the unit that pushes instead of pulls and mount it so it pushes downward.

Just fixed the same issue, the transistor that brakes the motor fails and it runs on too far and gets powered repeatedly as a result. I went for a mechanical fix and cut some more of the contact away with a dremel. It means the button might have to be pulled up slightly longer to start the motor but it stops after one cycle. There is of course the proper fix to replace the transistor....
