Value on a set of pistons?
I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of value for a set of tolerance group 0 pistons from a 85-86 928S? All the pistons but one are in good clean useable condition and come from a running engine. Unfortunately, one of the pistons were dropped during removal from about 12" high and damaged the crown of the piston (see pic). This piston might be useable if a machine shop can clean it up but no guarantees. Piston skirts are clean and the pistons come with wrist pins and rings. Pistons to me are very clean and very useable.
We are doing a nikasil build with new custom made lower compression pistons to handle the added boost so I have no use for these. I'm not expecting to get top dollar for these and would rather help a member in need and give him a good price. If you guys could give me some numbers I would much appreciate it.
Thanks

928 International sells them for $50.00 each possibly with the 1/2 price December sale only $25 each. And sales by an individual are usually valued lower for a number of reasons....

a small file will take that blem out of the crown ,
dont use any type of cleaner on the pistons except for simple green soaking and a tooth brush.
NOTE no scotchbrite or machine shop cleaners should be used as these will remove the iron coating .
These pistons are only good for someone that needs 0 tolerance pistons you may get lucky and find someone thats looking for a set. you might get 100 to 200 for them

Yea, I knew about the cleaners and what could happen with the coating. I saw some unfortunate posts over the years in regards to that. Yikes! Thanks for the reminder though.

As Stan said, that tiny ding is nothing.....the piston should never touch the bore above the rings.
