Default Broken Manual Transmission

Looking for some advice / guidance.

Driving home the other day, shifting from 4 to 5, I lost gears. I tried putting it back into 4, still nothing. Tried all gears and nothing. I was hoping it was a shift linkage so climbed under car after getting it towed home and linkage entering trans is moving as it should when moving shift ****. I have never had a situation where all gears are gone. I have also not done a lot of transmission work.

Appreciate any advice / input. Plan is to get the car into my garage and pull the trans.

Thanks

That alone is worth the price of admission. Don't think anyone on the planet knows these transmissions more so than Greg T

I was a member a few years back. Membership expired and this is the first time I have been on in over a year. Used to be a lot friendlier place.

Yeah, we are still a friendly bunch. I've met a lot of really nice guys here.
Have you checked your drive shafts? GL

Hi !

Can you even get the car into "neutral" so it will roll?

It most likely not the trans but a worn out linkage cup bushing (front), I'd start looking at there first.

Did you remove the rubber boot at the trans to be SURE that the rod into the trans is moving ?? and not just the coupler ? The little allen head set screw sometimes comes loose.

Likely that the front plastic shifter ball cup finally gave up and popped off the shift ball. Its a relatively easy fix. As others have suggested, take a look at the front top of the torque tube and see if the shift arm is still attached.
