So the bottle cap of the day—during lunch with Mark after unloading the car from the trailer—seemed appropriate.

Also love the sole "key" (Mark—you forgot your handle!), but will say I'm already into the 928 in new ways for the key design alone, with all those bevels. How cool, and it makes my 914 key (which Porsche used through the 1998 993) feel chintzy. Interesting to see it next to the current setup, which is also very cool.

Tool kit, or what's left of it, is indicative of the interior.

I'm inclined to get offending materials out of the interior, including most if not all of the carpeting. Door panels and a lot of other interior pieces are in bad shape, too. Backing materials are warped badly. I'll assess whether it's possible or worth it to try and save the leather separately, but this brings me to my first specific question, even before I wade into title waters.

Are interior backing materials—such as center consoles, glove box door pads, door cards, etc. hard to come by? Or are these shelves full of them at the dismantlers as a result of 928s allowed to go to the great crusher in the sky?

Stout,
You can have another key made by Keys4classics by sending them a camera shot of both sides of the "key" you have.

That being said: you might want to remove your post of the picture of the key exactly because a duplicate could be made from a photo.

Also, we need more pictures of the car

Okay, some pics of the thing. Credit for these goes to Mark.

And from the other thread, for the sake of documentation. Again, photo credits go to Mark.

Crikey, that interior! That may be the most disgusting interior I've seen on this forum, except for that one that was completely open to the elements after a tree branch went through the windshield. My '79 looked better after the flood.

You have two options there:
  • Spend a great deal of time or money to source a decent stock interior.
  • Go the 928RS route and put in a stripped down interior.
Whatever you eventually do, you need to follow Stout's advice and tear that **** out!

And you probably want to source a Tyvek suit and a contaminant mask when you do.

I have a complete set of carpets in black they are from a low mile 88 S4,
very slight color fading, includes the factory floor mats front and rear,
and hatch floor mat all in good condition
Wash them in cold water and tide then add some black trim paint to the slightly faded areas ,install them,
they should be good to go. 250.00 . new carpet kit is about 850.00
It looks like you will still need door panels and armrests..
throw out the rear seats they are done./
I have a new front spoiler for sale 310.00.

Jeez this is a rough one. Good luck, and just remember this while working on it - that car is not the typical shark!

Years ago I often would post that someone's project car was $10,000 away from being a $5,000 car.... in this case that would be an optimistic point of view. Do not fixate on "saving" the car focus on saving yourself Thousands of 928s have been junked and parted out one more or less makes no difference. There is nothing special or significant about that car ! Stan just offered you a couple things which already would more than double your "investment" ....
Try to avoid getting emotionally attached to this car or you will make some really bad decisions as you get sucked into a financial black hole and get "pot committed" to the point that you must finish it. How much more can it possibly need ?????
Spend a little more for a running, driving car with a title.
