Bridgestone 245/45-16's have shipped!
Two years ago I had trouble finding tires for my 7-slot / manhole wheels. I ended up buying another set of manholes just to get newish tires. They were nice wheels, and Adam probably wishes he had them back; the tide is turning towards originality, at least in Rochester.
Anyway, I've worn out the rears already. Tire Rack didn't have them in stock, but said they would be getting more. I ordered them two weeks ago and just got a shipping notice.
These are the Potenza RE-11 extreme summer tires, like I have on the front. They are the only tire of this size listed on their site, however, so the situation is still fragile.

Great news! These tires are much better than the Toyos. Quieter, grippier, better feel overall.

Those of us in non-snow, non-salt areas have to be careful driving on these in cold weather, since the high-performance tires turn into hockey pucks below 40 deg F.

Tire Rack didn't show any all-season tires in this size, in any speed rating; perhaps they are available somewhere else, or there's another size that would work.
I'd like to see a traction versus temperature curve for summer and all-season tires. I'm sure traction might drop a lot for summer tires, but does it actually become lower than all-season tires?

Yes. For this reason, and in sympathy to those like me, I implore you to put your cars up on stands and fix your torque tube bearings, or whatever else your car almost certainly needs.

Read Wally's post. Hockey pucks.

Yup, they are outright dangerous when it gets below 10C. Nighttime temperatures is what you shroud be looking when deciding to drive on summer tires.

Due to distribution agreements that we have with Bridgestone, unfortunately we cannot ship their tires outside of the USA.
For those in the US, I do still have several of the 245 RE-11's left. Call me if I can help order a set.

Damon, I will not be needing a set for a while but do you have any indication from Bridgestone as to whether they will keep making the RE-11s in the future? I'm a big fan of these tires and it seems like there is a pretty decent market for this size.

I believe they have been discontinued, along with the re-760, and a few others in the Potenza line up. At least that what my tire guy told me.
