I'm a 968 owner, and just started pondering a long-term search for an early 928.
20+ years ago I became friends with a local (Minnesota) 928 owner. He had a copper colored '78 -'80 928. I lost touch with him a number of years ago and just found out he passed away in March of this year. His name was Jeff.
I know he tracked his car back in the day. It was a manual car and he had installed headers on it, I'm wondering if anyone on the forum purchased a car like this in MN through his estate?

Sorry, but no.
I've tracked my 928 with the PCA for 15 years and don't recall a copper 928 at the track or in the local 928 community (such as it is!) I recall a red '78 with headers, years back, at the track sporadically.
I also wanted to check on a car I disassembled this year. The owner had started on that and then passed away. A green '79 automatic but it was copper originally. No headers and the owner was "Steve."
