I think the blue car is in a lot better condition compared to the red one that Doc Posted.
but as always you get what you pay for.
sometimes you get a deal and usually its gonna cost you down the line

um, yeah. Big difference based on pictures alone, and I hardly trust the mileage of that red one. I saw that one before, an it looks a lot rougher than the odo indicates. The blue one in this thread is quite a bit better looking in terms of past care.

Actually it is way too easy to pay way too much for a car....that happens quite frequently. All that paying a high price assures you is that you PAID a high price. The perception may be that it is a nicer better car with less potential to need work, but price alone does not make it a reality.

The blue car is surely photographed better. I've seen the red car, and it's better in person than in the pics. But - we're not here for our monthly reality meeting, so......

Nice example of a well cared for 928. A lot to like, but without the basics on "when/who/where the major repairs have been made" it's hard to accurately pinpoint a true market value.

Probably a little late to the party, too...as far as...not to many pages on the calendar and most folks wait until more cars are on the market to enhance their choices next spring. Granted, there are those that like to buy going into winter...but they usually like a smoking deal to justify their wait. Of course, my opinion is a little regionally motivated...and offers may differ in warmer climates.

Not so sure the auto-manual thingy is that big of deal anymore...especially for those that are using it for a daily.

Okay, now for my wild *** guess.

$21.5 - next spring or 17.5 - now, if all of the big ticket items have been handled mechanically (TB, WP, OPG, MM, Fuel lines, Suspension, etc)

$17.5 - next spring or $14.5 - now, if none of the above are done.

Brian.

Doc, is it an 86.5 or an 86?

Wow. First off, thank you all so much. I never expected more than one or two responses. This car is one of 3 Porsche's I have, including a 996 and an old 930 awaiting an engine and interior rebuild some day. But this 928 is the pride of my fleet to me, I just love 928's. I've owned a few in the past and wished I had known about this forum when I did. Once again, thank you guys for all the help you have given me. This unit has had 3 timing belt and WP jobs in the last 20 years, along with a certain amount of belt adjustments, all done at the dealer. It is pretty much due for the next one. Last one was 6000 miles ago. All my other one's were older, there is an amazing difference in the way they handle with the S4 suspension. This car rides smooth, but tight. Handles better than my 996 in most conditions. The brakes on the 86.5/S4 cars are phenomenal too. It would be nice for it to be a stick tranny like many have said, but I have 4 other cars with a stick including a Turbo Sky and a Slingshot. Some times it is nice to just enjoy the drive.

You've considered selling the 996 and keeping the 928?

Dear GOD are you getting annoying.

I'm still curious, are you on the Lamborghini forum blasting everyone that is asking four times the value of their cars compared to 10 years ago? If so, what is your screen name.....I'm on those forums too.

Funny you should mention that. I have thought of it, but my 996 is in incredible condition also and I love the sound a rear engine flat six makes with the Fabspeed exhaust. Plus it's also probably my least valuable one, I could probably get more for the 928 than for the 2002 996 with half the miles. My real dilemma is, having owned these before, and spending years between looking for new ones, I know it will be years (and many more long trips) before I find another one this nice. That being said, I wouldn't mind hunting for a good S4. I can never make up my mind. The joys and sorrows of being me.

I personally drive these cars with the 16 inch wheels.

But if you want to take a completely new look at your car, try bolting up a set of carrera 3 or other modern wheel. Like facelift and implants.

What rubber are you running? I couldn't find tires that matched the original size of my '90 S4 rears. (I see that Tire Rack now has two choices of tires that would fit. They were unavailable when I bought rubber last year.)

my sense is that the 928 is a flip. He didn't answer that question from my earlier post. Either way, it would be my choice. You can find boatloads of 996's getting cheaper every week.

Also, now that this looks like an honest to gosh for sale thread, IBTL.

Sorry I neglected your questions. I'm not sure what a flip is, but the car is in my name and has been owned for going on 2 years. Before that it was owned by a gentleman who has had it worked on by the shop I go to for 20 years. I didn't answer your earlier questions because there were about 20 questions asked by the time I saw the replies and yours seemed to be trying to insinuate I was up to something shady by asking for help from the mostly friendly members on this forum. Much like Doc's usual bit. I have never offered this car for sale and am beginning to feel sorry for asking for help here in case I do next spring and sharing pictures of the car I (and I thought the rest of this forum) love so much.
