WIRE WHEELS?
I know that because of the offset it would be an unorthodox design that resulted in a wire wheel for the 928, but I think that it would complete the car if it could be pulled off by some clever engineering. Has anyone else broached the subject?

The early front wheel drive Olds Toronados and Cad Eldorados which had the large offsets like a 928 have been fitted with true spoke wheels...so it has been done . Just need it drilled for the Porsche bolt pattern ...
Having had old Jaguars and experiencing what it is like when 1/2 of the spokes shear off when accelerating out of a corner, I am not a big fan

Modern horsepower and tires overwhelm almost any wire wheel with spokes long enough to appreciate. Spokes are good at holding the car off the ground. Driving stretches the spokes.
There are "wire-wheel" wheel covers that might give you the look you want. Heavy, and typically need to fit over steel wheels.
Maybe paint spokes onto a manhole-cover wheel?
