How much do you spend a year on repairs for your 928?

well I havent had the car a year, but I am guessing it is all depending,
say 1 set of tires a year anywere from $500 - $1500 (depending on brand, and stickyness)
new spark plugs, say $7 a plug 8X = $56
say 1/2 a timing belt being a max of say $1800 = $900
spark plug leads $250
Engine oil $80 (synthetic)
oil filter $35
gas filter $80
misc $500 (parts such as fuel pump, and misc pieces)

grand total of approximatly = $3400

I have spent $15k in the past 3.5 years, and have driven about 15k miles - that's $1 per mile. Some things I have done myself or with the help of friends; otherwise the amount would be even higher.

Don't let the low prices of 928s fool you: 10 years ago 928 was $80k - that's five times as much as a Toyota. Expect five times the repair/maintenance cost, if you don't do it yourself.

There should be a "Too much" option. I keep track of what has been done, but stopped keeping a running total because it was getting depressing. The last time I was at DEVEK I joked that I'll have my yearly tax refund mailed directly to DEVEK since that's where the money ends up anyway. But, I look forward to the weekends because that's the only time I can drive the car.

It seemed my best year was about 2200 and the worst was almost 7 grand.

I think it'll be about $1,500 per year to keep a 928 in good shape.
That's just for maintenance, if you do performance or cosmetic upgrades,
you add that separately. Also, if you race it, you can throw the $1500
figure out the window. I figure I spend $3-5,000/year on my car, and I only
do a few events a year. I could easily double or triple that if I did more events.

Since May: $3189 in parts, and $454 in service.

Now to be fair, this is my first year with the car and expenses have now tailed of radically. Going forward I would think it will be a bit lower (OK, except when I fix the 2nd gear syncro!)

My expenses vary wildly.

The first couple years I spent almost nothing - the PO took VERY good care of the car and it just had the major service a few months before I bought it.

Then there was the year I spent $8k, followed by the $4k year. This year I haven't spent much because I've barely driven it - it needs a timing belt and I've been too busy to do it and to cheap to pay someone else!

You're really asking for trouble here...But So What!

I'll confess. I spend about 1500-1800/yr so far (2 seasons) but that is including everything I can think of, even long term things like fuel pumps that I may never change again, and wheels that won't get replaced again unless I get rich.

It's certainly more than my ski boat, but I use it alot more - Ruf

the car is a symbol of my earning power but i despise symbolism and in an effort to more directly flaunt my wealth i throw wads of cash into every independant porsche garage in southern england!
