Default WTB/R/B: Looking to Borrow/Rent/Buy SIR tools B 90-P Rear bearing tools

Looking to borrow, rent or buy the SIR Tools B 90 kit for Porsche rear bearing removal. I am in the North Carolina area, but will pay for shipping from/to anywhere in the CONUS of course.

I had mentioned this here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...tool-loan.html
But did not want to Hijack.

Related: If anybody can recommend a nice set of LARGE circlip pliers that I can order easily from Amazon or other, it would be appreciated. Specify exact model, as it is often hard to tell if they are really big enough for the large circlips that we have to deal with ( Rear bearing, front transmission seal, etc)

Hi Ken,

I have the SIR Tools B90-P3 set, which does not include the 2-piece horseshoe bracket, IOW you might need a small shop press (I have one, so didn't need those pieces) to do the job. Would that help?

Maybe...

Without the horseshoe bracket, that would mean I would need to remove the whole rear assembly from the car, using the shop press correct?

Nope, just the hub.

Some folks have had success with a heavy-duty slide hammer for getting the hub out of the bearing. After that, the circlip comes out, and you pull the bearing with the threaded shaft and the adapters. On the outside, a sleeve captures the bearing.

Not sure where the shop press comes in doing it this way, except for pulling the piece of inner bearing race off the hub. You get to do that even with the full B90 setup.

Ken ... I have a set of 10 inch Circlip pliers that I used to remove the clips on my rear hubs.... Harbor Freight sells them for around $10, but if you want to borrow mine I'll be happy to lend them to you. I'm down the road from you in Cary. I can't help you with the bearing tool as I removed the whole rear suspension when I did my rear bearings.

Bill,

Thank you for the offer, but a Circlip tool is definitely a "buy" not "borrow". I bought a nice "ChannelLock" brand circlip tool when doing my front transmission seal. It _looked_ big enough, but was actually undersized and inadequate for that size ring, so almost certainly way too small for wheal bearing retainer clip. Do you have a part number or link to the Harbor Freight model you have used? I can get that on the way and not worry that it won't work.

I am mulling over the P3/Hammer slide option. I already have a press.

Also, for clarification, it looks like there are three versions of this kit, based on:
http://www.sirtools.com/B90.htm

B 90: Master
B 90-P : Apparently most Porsche rears
B 90-P3: Just 911T and 928

FWIW, IME the 10" circlip tool from H-F is not really up to the task if the snap ring is at all stuck or bound by the bearing. It took a bit of work to get the clip freed up using a small punch and a screwdriver to get it started out of the groove in the carrier. Once free, the H-F pliers worked OK for the rest of the removal, and for the install when the bearing was fully seated against the inner stop/shoulder.

Just PM me your shipping address, and we'll work it out. BTW, are you planning on going to Frenzy?

PM sent

Negative on Frenzy. I'd love to go, but my entire 928 travel budget is already spent on track days and tires. One of these summers I'll make it...
