What is this instrument console wire in my 82?
Redoing dash & pod & stuff and I found this loose wire in the harness that connects to the bottom of the cluster. It's taped off, so it may have always been unconnected, but since my speedo, odo, and gas gauges don't work, I thought I'd ask.

The "disconnected and taped off" connector is for the Euro rear fog light switch. All cars have it. In US cars, it was taped off at the factory and tucked up out of the way (you were right about that).

Thanks, guys.
I plugged that pin back in but I didn't see any difference in my instrument cluster. I really can't imagine why someone would remove that particular pin, and I don't feel like tracing it on the cluster (and I'm not sure I could figure it out anyway).
The connector with the stray green/gold wire is the driving light switch. I tested it and the lights are working properly. So, I guess it's not a problem.
New interesting thing: The glove box light is only getting .33 volts. That seems a little low. It won't even power an LED bulb.
