One of my early Catholic-school heroes George Carlin reminded us that there are two kinds of drivers. Depends on point of view I guess. Per his definition, I fall into the "********" category at this point in life. As a younger driver, I was (according to judges anyway) more of the "maniacs" category. I do enjoy going fast, but also consider the potential costs and other collateral damage issues when other unsuspecting ******** are sharing the road with me. I let the maniacs pass me by.

Richard --

Polished your launch technique? Or more rubber on the launch spot as the afternoon wore on?

Guessing you had traction control active.

Good stuff!

I think we are still just in the "*******" category.......I don't think that ever changes.

Default More than capable of fun

I don't think my 79 928 is the fastest car out there - I just use her for what she is - fun. I don't zig- zag in and out of traffic or drive like a lunatic. There are plenty of roads here in Kentucky that have long straights and smooth swooping curves. In a note to some of the posts above - I'm originally from York, PA and was just up to visit the family a few weeks ago. I told the wife, I wish I was driving the 928 through WV(79 corridor) and 68/70 coming out of Morgantown into W. MD. Would have been an epic drive. But instead, I was in an all to American travel boat- (Buick Enclave). The other sad thing - in the 11 hour drive we only saw 1 cop/statee & he was on the other side outside of Fredrick, MD heading west. I know their are more folks that just don't want to say anything for fear of being ridiculed by some. Let's put it this way - watch Jay Leno's garage and see if he isn't out in the streets getting on it in multiple cars. I guess he is just an idiot too . Plenty of other shows out there as well of people blistering through the canyons in Cali.- just idiots too. Enough said - have a good day all & drive safe.

If you believe what you think you see on reality shows is "real" ...... The producers did a great job. And for the record I have hundreds of hours racing my old very brown 1980 around various tracks in California and it is great fun...even if it is NOT quick or very fast compared to many cars today. Enjoy your car and be safe , your wife and kids probably need you to be around.
Oh and if you still have the original front lower ball joints you might want to do the upgrade before a wheel falls off. The pull of a long sweeping corner can pop it apart ! But usually it happens as you make a very sharp turn into parking spot.

Hi Bob,

Thanks!

The traction control stays on, as it's nearly impossible to launch without melting tyres if it's off!! I learned the hard way after smoking some Pirellis......

Yes, I was working on the launch technique. It's all down to that to get through the speed traps at max speed.

Best,

Richard

One of the nice things about a stock early 928 is that you can drive it "hard" and still not be going too dangerously fast as long as you don't do it very long.

For those driving to Frenzy from out of state - be careful. I recommend no more than 5 mph over the speed limit on the interstates.
In what world is speeding 20 mph an "automatic reckless"? According to various CA law firms specializing in defending traffic fines, speeding by itself does not constitute reckless driving. Reckless driving is defined as showing wanton disregard for safety of others, and a prosecutor has to convince a jury that your bad driving went this far.

State statute defines what's reckless driving, and CA law or code is apparently different. For example, RD can be a charge when one fails to signal in VA:

I hope this helps.

Really? And this observation is based on what?
I can and do drive my stock, early shark hard, and have done so all day long.

I believe he meant that if you hold the accelerator pedal all the way down for 30 seconds....you are going way too fast ! But unlike many of todays supercars it is not going to get away from you as you floor it from a stop light or goose it going up around an onramp.

Well, yeah, wow. The answer to my question "in what world" is apparently, in the world of Virginia. They really need to work on the state legislators over there, apparently. That link you posted is just plain *scary*. It's a step or two away from the Khmer Rouge.
