Street "racing" is truly a contest but not of *****, guts, driving skill, better car simply of stupidity....and be stupid enough long enough and you usually WIN... Get caught and you usually go to jail, have an accident and kill someone and your life as you knew it is pretty much OVER....long prison terms for vehicular man slaughter and civil judgments for everything you own. And thinking that a 79 928 is a very fast car is simply delusional at best. I am just glad that my family does not spend much time in Ky...just a quick stop at the Corvette museum driving their 1,000 HP Nissan GTR you might have raced past them and won !

HP - came up alot
Why have a car with a 1000hp and not use it?? Might as well by a Prius and save the gas. Buy a Land Yacht and sleep. Get a new Mercedes that drives itself & read a good book. To each his own.

We will be in Ely Nevada again this year for the open road racing, last year in the 1/2 mile standing start challenge I think he did 170 mph and was second fastest before the engine upgrade.....cars has been on several tracks and done some sanctioned drag racing as well. It gets used but mostly it is just a nice ride !

I never go faster than conditions permit. Conditions are sometimes very good in my area.
I passed a Cayman GT4 recently on a lovely 2-lane road that was - despite good conditions - holding up me, a pickup truck, and a Subaru.

And I think the dilemma here is the gap between the car's capabilities and what it "represents" to you.
It could be that 9 out of 10 times, drivers of the serious versions of those pony cars are deciding that running a (mere) 300HP 30is year old classic car isn't worth it. Could be that they have their own ideas about who is playing the Posser...I mean poser.

In VA. the owners of the serious versions of the new pony cars know they are driving a cop magnet and that racing a 30 year old car with 300 hp isn't worth the automatic "reckless" for going 20 over the speed limit - and spending a weekend in jail...big fine...impounding your car, etc. I got very lucky about a month ago on rt. 7 when I decided to test the kick down switch going west over the Shenandoah River (forgot my phone so no Waze warning). Got me for 74 in a 55 (I was going faster). I think the antique plates and a +5 record influenced the officer's decision to keep it below reckless (and maybe because the conditions were favorable...no other cars on the bridge). The officer was actually very understanding that I was really just testing the car and not being an idiot. So now my record is +4 and I'm $160 lighter - and still grateful the officer knocked it down to 74. It could have been a lot worse.
For those driving to Frenzy from out of state - be careful. I recommend no more than 5 mph over the speed limit on the interstates.

Actually his 1979 on a good day has MAYBE 200 horsepower at the rear wheels My 4.0 Nissan frontier 2007 v 6 pickup has more power and a 6 speed ! But I agree many THINK it has more power yet some believe it is a 4 cylinder like the 944 and most really could care less about the old Porch with the loud exhaust being driven by a reckless idiot....
