Carl used to sell the shift gates, I don't think they are available any more -- not that many of us, apparently, were ready for the look, shall we say.
I always loved the Italian look, soooo it works well for me, nice tight solid shift pattern too.
In terms of the eccentric, let's hope it doesn't work the way you describe, lol. I will let you know when I take it out tomorrow...
You are still turning the hub, same as before I would think. Just a hub 12mm longer and wheel set 18mm higher to see the gauges better, but for me I can also have more leg room.

Thanks for the link to the eccentric. I had a look and the off-center distance is small enough that it likely won't be an issue at all - I mistakenly also thought that the two sides are not parallel, essentially tilting the wheel so that it is no longer perpendicular to the steering shaft. It won't wobble - it will follow a mini "hula hoop" motion as you turn, but nowadays most cars' OEM steering wheels do that by design. I have a 15mm Momo spacer on mine - not just to bring the steering wheel closer, but also to give my fingers a bit more room to clear the stalks.

For the OP or anyone else later trolling thru this thread, your solution depends on the year of your car and whether it has an airbag. If it has an airbag, in addition to defeating that with a resistor, your shaft will be a different size (hey, keep it clean), and you'll need an extra part or two for the horn contact. There are different momo adapters so none of it's insurmountable. But before you buy a wheel, just be aware there are differences. Or you may be buying $100 in other parts.
FWIW, if you do remove an airbag, I'd let your insurance company know. Personally my rates didn't go up--but I wanted to avoid any drama later as it's safety equipment.
