Rebalanced tires, Rush and my favorite on ramp...
Nothing like a little high speed in the Blueshark with freshly balanced tires and Rush in the CD player to put a smile on my face. Rock steady. I honestly cant remeber the last time the car felt this good since i've owned it. And it didnt cost me an arm and a leg. And of all places to find a competent tire man, but right in my home 'burb' of Crownville. Just a little gas station that does import work. Crownsville Automotive. If you Anne Arundel County guys are looking for a man to do your wheel balancing, i recommend this place. I have no affliation other than the fact the i buy my gas there. I would have never guessed they did high end wheel work.
I thought i would just pass along a positive experience dealing with a shop. And a non-Porsche one at that.
Oh yeah, they were quick too. I dropped off the wheels on the way to work and picked them up on my way home.

"a question of balance"
I found myself in Boise, Idaho once at the Porsche Parade and in need of tire balancing, after buying 2 new tires before the trip and having them balanced (incorrectly). I drove into Big O tires and paid $25 and drove out a short while later with perfectly balanced tires. I was amazed. No big deal and no particular Porsche knowledge. Now I look for them if I am out of range of a local shop.

isnt it hard to get a good balancing job done? whether its crap machines or just bad attitude from the operator is hard to tell. due to work i constantly find myself off the beaten track in different places and more recently have had tyres replaced. getting them fitted was the easy part, balancing.... ha!
it got to the point where i would simply pull in to any tire place that i was passing and let them have a crack of the whip, pay out and drive away with a different harmonic vibration running through the car.
totaly by surprise and in a most out of the way corner in west wales of all places and the guy does a first rate job! very pleased after that - smooth highway running again.

You bet Don. Just a straight pull to 120 and back off again by the end. Nary a shimmy or shake. I was very pleased to say the least. And yeah, that was the place we talked about. Now i need to go to Tri Tech for an alignment. I noticed a little inside wear on the fronts when i took them off. The rears look very evenly worn.
NYD - Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. I had just bought this Rush CD at walmart, The Spirit of Radio - Greatest Hits 1974-87, and I had forgotten how much I really liked their stuff.

Rush, ... well you guys are dating yourselves, but it takes one to know one! Let's see how old I am... Rush, Caress of Steel, Fly by Night, 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure, Signals and that's where I faded. The music just seemed stressed to me at that point. They were trying too hard. - Ruf
PS - after posting I went ot a Rush site to see how good my memory was, I know I missed Farewell to Kings and Permanent Waves which was one of my faves. Age. It's a bitch.
Also, can some of you go into more detail about how your unbalaned tires felt? I think I hae one too.

Rufus - LOL I was just going to say that you must be closer to my age because that was EXACTLY the progression with Rush that I took. Aside from some rare songs I just couldn't get into the newer stuff. I'm 41 too!

I'm 40 myself. I too pretty much lost interest a 1 or 2 albums after Moving Pictures. But now i'm finding myself reinvesting in music that I had bought on cassette tapes back when there was no CD's. I have an entire Led Zepplin collection to buy yet. Oy!
In answer to the how did i know it was the tires question. The car would get the shakes at speeds above 80 mph.

Ehhhhhh, and for a moment there I thought it was another opportunity to bash Rush Limbaugh.
We should all be in tune with "Red Barchetta". Don't let the bastards outlaw the internal combustion engine!!!!!!
