Derlin Rack Bushes Again
#16
I don't remember any challenge putting the bolts through the bushings. I may have used the nuts as a press. I can't remember....so it must have been easy To get some room above, if you can lift the engine just enough (about 2 centimeters) to get to the stock height relative to the cross brace you may have the space you need to work with the bolts. But it may not be a good idea to flex tired and cooked mounts if you plan to leave them be for awhile.
never had an issue with the bolts and bushes myself.

Ok thanks guys. I've got them in. Ran through them with a 10mm drill (25/64 non metric not easy to find in UK without an online delivery). They are still a tight fit even though the holes were drilled out a little so I reckon I'm good.

Only tips I can give is make sure the insert holes on the rack are cleaned/sanded out a bit and greased when inserting the bushes. Use a long bolt and two washers and a nut to press them in, as suggested by Adrian. And then if you find you need to then drill the holes in the bushes out a little. No big deal.
I'll follow up when I get the car on the road and see if I notice any difference in the steering.
Cheers

It seems I had more problems than most so may just be the mechanic. I don't think failed motor mounts helped.

So far the Volvo mounts are holding the motor in the same position (top of intake just slightly above top of support bar) since about a week after installation, and isolating engine vibration very well. I've had them in for almost two years.
There was a night and day difference in steering precision and accuracy after installation of the Delrin bushings. The old bushings were not completely shot, but I was doing the MMs so it was a good time to replace them. I'm sure new OEM bushings would have been a nice improvement as well. Oil had softened the original bushings.
