O-2 sensor install help needed.
I just got an APSX wide-band O-2 sensor set for my '83 Euro with K-Jet CIS fuel injection. I don't have cats, X or Y pipes. The WSM shows pipes on each side connecting the header to the front muffler, then dual pipes going to the pumpkin. muffler. It would seem to me that I put the O-2 sensor in the passenger side pipe. I know I'll only get readings from that side, but my F.D does not have adjustable ports, so I think it will be OK that way. I just put new injectors so I don't have to worry about bad injectors. Any thoughts on this from the 'Wiser Heads' on this? TIA

Dumb question- is there even an oxygen sensor (and a sensor bung) in an '83 Euro? If not, any muffler shop ought to be able to pop one in for $10 or $20, and it's fine to put it in one side's downpipe.

People have said that there's a cross-over effect in the two mufflers before the pumpkin.
Does it matter how close to the engine the O2 sensor is?

I don't have a Y pipe and Euro's don't have a O-2 sensor bung. That's why the question. I''ll find out if the body is drilled for the O-2 wires when I take things apart. If there's gas mixing in the front muffler, then putting it there makes sense, but that part of the exhaust looks like it's harder to remove than the pipe from the header. The instructions I got with my set-up say install the bung 24" from the exhaust port. (The ONLY stupid question is the one you didn't ask, especially when it cost's you money...I ask a lot of 'stupid' questions here too)

You want it as close to the engine as practical. If the sensor is too far, it will not function well. Also, you want to get a reading from both bank otherwise, there is no point having one as you are only guessing what the other bank is doing.

I'd put bungs in both header pipes, and get plugs for them at the same time. Test & Tune in one side, then confirm similar reading in the other side. Then plug the bungs [when] you aren't testing.
