Great story, Magnus actually called me about 8-10 months ago, spoke with him for about 1/2 hr (he was getting into 928's - was interested in my cars. He of course wanted the 'not for sale' ones. I put a crazy number on them as I knew he wanted them but also knew he's not a guy to 'overpay' despite the means to do so, and they are truly 'not for sale' (unless it pays for a couple years private college for my kids). Otherwise I feel like I'm not done having my fun with them.
Now I've heard he's releasing 'his' version of the 928 shortly. Previously the 'Urban Outlaw' video described in his TED talk sparked the remarkable increase in early 911's and 930 turbo's. Hopefully the same spark will help 928's, although I have mixed feelings as the OB had been a lot of fun collecting without breaking the bank, and that's been changing rapidly over the last few years. They may go out of range for most of us soon. He noted to me that when he started getting into Porsche's in early '90's, nobody wanted '76 Turbo's or the 65-66 short hood 911's, and he was buying odd colors and interior cars and just having fun playing with them. Supply was flush. Owners were happy someone was even interested in their cars. Most of his cars (Including some VERY rare '76 Turbo's) were purchased for less than $15k...
Great guy to talk to, true car guy, and I always wondered where he got his $$.
A lot of my 928 passion has also been 'gut feeling', going for the 'odd' colors and rare interiors (and stoked by Jim Doerr). Hope it pays off. But there are a few that will always be 'not for sale'.
