So i just signed up today as i decided im going to find a 928 to restore.
Ive done 3x Corvette C-3's and got tired of vettes...Sold my Z06 for a Cayenne and never looking back.
My Cayenne is 2011 Turbo, black on black and blacked out. crazy fast and the wife and kids love it.
Ive always wanted a 928 so now its time to research the year and options so i can start hunting. My gut tells me to find an S4 with 5 speed and sunroof but, time will tell.
I'm looking forward to reading all of the history here as the journey begins.
Cheers,
Ron

Welcome Smokey! Refer to the sticky on the front page for knowledge. Plenty of 928 have come out of the garage for sale during the most recent surge in interests; however, it has been concentrated to OB (78-79) and Euros. S4 has been the bastard child recently in the market. Good luck in your quest in finding the best project for you!

Where there's smoke there is fire. Sounds like you have it for the 928. That is good. Restoring a 928 is a far bit more complicated and expensive than a Corvette. You have been warned.... now go get one and make us proud.

Welcome Ron, I am a noob here also, awesome forum here, good luck with finding your car, the people here, almost all that know more than I, will answer any question, no matter how big or small, on your "potential" new buy.
Look foward to following your progress.

You are coming in at a point where prices have basically doubled in the last couple years.....that was then.... this is now !! 928s for the most part are still a bargain compare to 911s , F-cars, E-types.... now those may be overvalued but most 928s are still pretty affordable for what they are.....

Welcome smoke-inator. Now that you are in, have at it!
As a relative noobie myself, I can tell you to READ the sticky!!! Then double your cost estimates and go from there.
Since you are coming from Vette world, you are used to spending money. 928's are worse, but doable. Get familiar with the regular vendors here.
Good Luck!

Welcome to Rennlist.
Good luck finding the car you are after, believe me...it's out there. You just have to be patient. My advice is...find and buy the best example you can. Preferably garage kept and by someone that loved the car as much as you hope to.
Brian.

Welcome. Read-Absorb-Ask is advice from a new caregiver.
Read: Read and reread the info on top and about the different variations
Absorb: sit back and ponder the differences and advantages of each
Ask: Ask opinion from this knowledgeable group..
From experience, the info here is not only useful, but extremely valuable. I wish I had a PPI completed when I finally pulled the trigger. Although my '82 has been relatively trouble free, I believe I would have benefited from another set of eyes (besides my 'buy-eyes'). The quest is fun!

Good luck with your search! Now is a great time as there are more on the market than probably ever. But with that means there are more with issues that you will want to filter past. Like the others have said, read the new user sticky. Very helpful!
As a noob myself I find this forum the most technically oriented and responsive of any car forum I have ever visited. Literally you will get answers to your questions within minutes. It's great.
Everyone has their preferences, but Euro spec models and domestic '86.5 models will probably give you the most performance for the dollar. The early models (sometimes called "OB"s here) are cool and have the purest style. The S4 model has more modern lines and rear wing. The later versions of this model is when air bags where first introduced. The GT is reportedly the most sports car oriented of the models, 5-speed only, more aggressive gearing. The GTS is the last of the models. Limited production, most horsepower and most expensive. There are a few specialty trim levels that have been thrown in over the years as well. All this is just a drop in the ocean of information available here on these cars. Have fun and keep us posted on your search!
