Default 928 Autocross - What mods are allowed, groups, experience etc...

I searched the archives but couldn't find my specific questions.

I ran my 944S about 6 times, and my New Beetle 4 times over the past 4 years. Yesterday was my first with the 928.

At first the under-steer was terrible, this was probably due to not being used to the car and having front street tires that are over 8 years old with new rear's. Once I got used to the added torque over the 944, I was able to avoid any under-steer with a bit of throttle induced over-steer. Didn't hit any cones.

I was in A Stock, only other car in my class was a 2003 Subaru WRX STI. Can someone explain why a front engine rear drive with a 4.5 V-8 is in the same class as a 300hp all wheel drive car? I know the HP doesn't matter since a 79 928 and a GTS would be in the same class. The AWD has me confused.

As I understand it, any mods that are somehow factory original, I would stay in a stock class. Meaning my recent upgrade to the brakes off an 84 doesn't effect my class. Neither would a complete upgrade to S4 suspension as long as I use OEM shocks. Am I right?

Can I use stiffer springs?
What shocks can I upgrade to and stay stock?
What was the largest sway bar a 928 could have come with from the factory, and would it fit on an 81?
Are camber plates allowed in stock class?
How much negative camber can I run and still be stock or how extreme can you even get with stock pieces?

Sorry for all the questions. The SCCA web page is no help, unless I'm doing something wrong, to look up the different classes will require membership.

I do plan on taking a few DE events next year at Road America and running 4-5 auto-crosses with the 928. Since the 944S was originally bought to be a track car, I might sell it since the 928 is a lot more fun to drive on a track. Gotta have my V-8.

Hacker - PM me with contact info - I AX at least once a month - and have the latest SCCA rulebook in hand...

Believe it or not - U might be better off in BSP with the mods! The Honda S2000's RULE BStock!

ALSO - The ONLY way to even START to be competitive is with AX tires - like VictoRacers

Funny you should say that Mark. There was only one S2000 at this event and I beat him (and his wife, they used the same car) Now I know driver skill is everything, but a couple people said he has been competing for a few years. So who knows?

Why wouldn't the 928 and the Corvette's be in the same class? Is it engine displacement?

Mark - you have a PM
