Default Valve Adjustment?

How difficult is it to adjust the valves on an 83 928S? Ol' #1 has been sitting for about 18 months with infrequent startups due to a tail light issue I put off for waaaaay too long. Pulled the bumper cover and did a bunch of maintenance on it this weekend and gave it a start. Man were the valves noisey. Lot's of valve tapping. I don't remember it sounding like that the last time I started it. What could cause the valves to tap like that just siting around? I never drove it, but started it every two or three months and let it run and warm up. She starts at the turn of the key. It doesn't make sense. Bummer. I dread working on the valves. Might as well do a TB replacement if the cam towers have to come off.

Regards,
JE

Whew. OK, that was the plan anyway. She should be back flogging the roads regularly sometime in the next week or two. Then you will all have to welcome my brother Robert into the fold of Newbie 928 Ownership.

Regards,
JE
