what in the world? 4 door 928?

PbFoot, your comment reminds me of an mpeg I once saw w/ a pacer morphing into a 928. I know its painful to think about, but I would love to see it again if anyone out there has it.

That's one of the supposedly four 928 four door models built by American Sunroof Corporation. Do a search on this board, and you'll find multiple discueeions about this topic from the past.

Jon F,
Thank you for the link to the animated gif of the AMC Pacer (yikes!) morphing into the 928 (ahhhh!). I have to say that there are some striking similarities in the lines...funny that someone actually created this morph sequence. Many thanks...into my archives it goes!
Cheers,
Tim

To the best of my knowledge, all 4-door models were built by ASC.
Here is a picture of one that the factory still owns, and currently resides at the automuseum in Langenburg, Germany:
Note the difference in the rear end, compared to this one:

The four door versions were built around 1987 in cooperation with ASC (American Sunroof Corporation). I have heard rumors that there were four of them - all a little different - but have not been able to confirm this.
To the best of my knowledge, only one ASC 4-door 928 is in the US, and the 1984 928-4 Birthday car never saw US soil.
I have never seen any pictures of an ASC other than the above.
The amethyst metallic one has little over 5,000 km on the odometer and is likely still on display at the auto museum in Langenburg, Germany.

Metalcrafters in Newport Beach said they built 2 four door cars for Porsche many years ago . Metalcrafters makes many factory showcars ....including the Chrysler Atlantic (Bugatti) coupe of a few years ago which used a 928 style central tube , we made the driveshaft for them . So the people at Metalcrafters remembered the 928 driveline and used that concept on that big straight eight engine (two 4 cylinder neons end to end )car .

Chaos, Control, Chaos Contro. Pacers morphing into Sharks? Jeez, now I've seen everything. Now if Porsche could just morph their marketing dept. into getting us a new 928 (with 2 doors) I'd really be a believer. Ruf

I have seen the burgunudy one in person here in Louisville KY and they pulled it out for me to shoot photos of it. I sent pics to Adam B. for the 928 magazine for an article. It belongs to a car dealer here in Louisville. Interesting car with the suicide doors. Condition was decent with an average paint job(tape lines) and average interior(dirty and warping panels). This one was built by ASC and the owner purchased it at an RM or Kruse auction for the mid $40's. Not exactly my cup of tea.
