Oh gentlemen, are you telling me I can't get at least one "amen" from my S3 brethren?

Moment of truth...

Took old red (78) for spirited drive, first time ever mashing the go pedal to the floor...and it ranks number one in the fun factor column. To tell you the honest to goodness truth...I was a bit surprised at the amount of pickup she had. It really pulled hard through the gears. Granted, I kept the speed under 70...since the tires are older than most hills here in Michigan.

Old blacky (84) is a nice car to drive and will get out of its own way...but it feels much heavier and "something else" that I can't find the right word for? Don't get me wrong...it is still a great car for any type of driving...just seems more like a luxury type car...than say...a sports car.

But, then again...these are just the "findings" of my seat-of-the-pants-driving-experence.

I think I want an older 928.
I am aware that there is a substantial difference between the 924 and the 968 (also a twenty year time different between them) which may be your frame of reference. But is there really enough (substantial) difference the "928" (1978-1979) and your 928S '85 as to make it worthwhile to buy an older 928 just for the difference?

Think that what you "feel" is more the difference in the torque curves of the different motors.

I've had a stock 944 Turbo S, Boxster S, and 928 GT. They all had a 0-60 times, at or near 5.6, within .1 seconds of each other. The 944 had the steepest torque curve, ie lower at the start and peeking at higher rpms. The 928 had the flattest. The 944 Turbo felt much faster, as the engine rpms increased the car pulled harder the rate of acceleration increased pushing you more into the back of the seat. The 928 felt slowest. It hit harder as soon as you changed gears, but the rate of acceleration stayed the same and you felt like it didn't get any faster. The boxster felt somewhere inbetween. Yet the 0-60 times were almost identical.

Short answer - yes. At least as to whether there is enough substantial difference between the OB and the 85/86 (or beyond). Whether those differences are desirable or not is the subjective part of the equation.

Nice way of putting it.

You have much time, effort, and money getting this 85 up to speed mechanically so why stop now ? Get the A/C fixed along with the other little nagging issues as you stated. You want her as light as an OB ? Take out 150-175lbs as I did on the GTS: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...gnificant.html Want more of an OB look and the paint a bit tired ? Remove the front and rear spoliers, then get it all over to Austin (Kiln Red) for paint. That man knows how to paint a 928 and lives fairly close (Kentucky). It will cost some extra $ but consider changing the color for a whole new look or if the black does not suit you. Austin has stated that if you remove and reinstall the front & rear bumper covers you'll save some $$. Front seats worn ? http://www.busfreighter.com them to Rob Budd for the pascha color combo of your choice and mighr also put that dash/pod(?) in the box.02 T

radio and speakers are being installed in a few weeks. My guy is the best but also super busy. The interior needs work but it looks a lot worse in pics. The boxes are the speakers and grilles for the doors.

Close ups are pics of the driver's seat bolster, d/s headlight bucket(paint scratches), fingernail scratches(?) on the d/s door panel, brand new reconditioned cdr220 with faceplate modification, d/s taillight crack, and plastic dash cap.

Also, the engine intake may not be everyone's cup of tea but I thought it came out pretty good. I might grab some red "Porsche" lettering for the inset on the intake chambers.

Pretty sure the car has seen a repaint. I would say its actually pretty good with the exception of some chips on the hood and the rub strips have a few runs. Also, safelite replaced my windshield and didnt put the a frame trim back together properly. Im going to pursue them fixing it before I do anything else. Let me know if this interests anyone with an older ob! I would sell it outright but I'd rather not. Don't want to be sharkless if I can help it...
