This comment from one of the readers sums it up pretty good for me.

"The 928, while polarizing, was reviewed by many to be the most beautiful GT ever created. The Panamera is widely reviewed as one of the ugliest sedans ever created in the premium market.

Im sorry, but there are few parallels here."

For lots of reasons, the Pana is HUGE compared with the 928, so will appeal to a different audience than the 928 did. It's also way less expensive in time-corrected dollars, and for that enjoys a broader market appeal albeit with less exclusivity. The author is also way off base thinking that the major difference between the 928 and a Pana almost-sedan is the lack of a manual gearbox. Did you notice the two extra doors and the buttugly Pana rear design? Did the styling department stop working at the middle of the rear window? Notice how the 911 series has gravitated towards a rear fascia that is a clear derivative of the later 928? Notice how the Pana went off in a very different direction?

Except for engine type and location in the car, the latest 997 is a much closer relative to the 928 legacy than the Pana 4-door. Just sayin'...

Nice story, belch.

Hey, while I find the Pana bloated and elongated, I'm going to buy one.... when they are cheap and prevalent on CL. Like the Cayennes are now.

Talking

40 mg Prozac, check.
150 Wellbutrin XL, check.
250 mg Depakote, check.
Big glass of water, check.
GULP.

OK, call me c r a z y .... I think I understand the idea, a fast long distance GT-ish Porsche.
OK, call me c r a z i e r ...
I actually love the way the Panny looks.

It's killer ! ! !

It looks like something Darth Vader would want to drive. (Not the cheesy young Darth Vader, the real old school Darth Vader)
I love the unconventional rules-ignored styling! Now that's a PORSCHE !

Is it a new 928 ?? oh heck no. But I love it.

I've noticed a lot of the copycat internet/youtube fanboy experts ragging on the 970's exterior styling, almost in an obligatory sense by now. OK, internet channel boy, we get it, you wear skinny jeans and you can be a critic... But they said the same thing about the 928. But in bellbottomed jeans.

The Panamera is the Saab 900 Turbo of the fleet. But with Darth Vader driving. Very fast.

I wanna see the new Panamera in person. Looks better. I'm looking for prices to fall into my range as well.

It stupidest part was where he says the 6-speed Panamera was like the 928. Most 928s came with an automatic. The author doesn't know his stuff.

As a SAAB 900 T owner, I can't imagine the relationship to these 2 cars. Please explain! :-)

OT: I actually just got done driving another 1.500 miles in the 900 running about 80mph the whole way. In terms of drive train, the experience of driving that car is much like the 928 GT. Gearing, motor noise, etc. BUT, there is a point at about 85mph, where the car becomes unstable.

Cool thing about the 928 is the faster you go the more stable it feels. I wonder if the Panamera is the same feel.

Saab 900 Turbo: Uniquely beautiful, fast, a rule-breaker in terms of conventionally-accepted styling, very good at what it is supposed to do.

I love the 900 Turbos.

Think Porsche considered the 911 a GT when they added water.

I know I'm in the minority, but I love the Panamera. Of course, I love the look of my 955 Cayenne, too.
