Default Sharktoberfest - Some Pics

Lots of 928 folks and their cars at the 928 International / SoCal 928 Sharktoberfest event this weekend - at one point there were 80+ cars swarming the 928 International compound.

My good pal Marc White from Wichita:

A pic of the new wheels on my ride for those who asked for 'em:

It's about time you showed us pics of the new wheels.

Delightfully tacky, yet understated

Randy V ... you missed Sunday's events ... it was a great day.

The SOCAL Sharktoberfest under Dan Bise's management was a SUPER event. There was something for everyone, and if you took it all in it was just a super event. Thanks too to Mark Anderson, he and his staff took care of us and his hospitality (food, drinks, facilities, tech sessions) was most appreciated. For those who missed it, there is a 928 "pick-up" in the works.

The Fun drive on Sunday was supurb, I expected the LA roads to be packed, but these guys took us on some great "off the main track" roads that were a blast for all to drive. The lunch was great too. I've never seen so many prizes for attendees ... We booked after lunch to return to Phoenix (no problem for the GTS), so we'll see the museum next time.

Thanks for inviting us and including Arizona as an "extension" of SOCAL. We felt at home as always.

Enjoy,

Very cool. I'm very disappointed that I could not make it. Is that the infamous "brown, very brown" 928 belonging to Mr. Bailey in the left foreground of the first picture? Congrats to SOCAL 928 and 928 International for putting on what looks like a spectacular event. Special kudos to Dan Bise and Mark Anderson.

Yup...Brown, very Brown and various shades there of
I wasnt witness but i believe i did hear it. The brown, very brown 928 apparantly humiliated a vette driver (c5 i think?) on Miraloma Blvd. Jim wasnt even at the wheel!

Tony,

One of my colleagues (a former USAF jet jockey) used to own an early BROWN 928 like the ones in your photos. It was affectionately known around the department as "the brown t**d." But, he loved that car...it was the equivalent of 256-gray scale in brown ;-) Florida sun is hell on paints. Kudos to the owner (Jim?) of the one in your photos for keepin' her on the road!

Kudos also on what looks like a wonderful event in Socal for your Sharktoberfest. I'm gearing up for Sharks In The Mountains (SITM) 2004 here on the east coast. Those in the know...please tell me there will be one ;-) Details?

Cheers,
Tim

Cool

I didn't see the actual whuppin of the vett, but as the "Brown, very brown" came back into the group there was a BIG round of applause. The entire Sharktoberfest event was a monument to Dan Bise 928SOCAL, and Mark Anderson of 928 Intl.

The old very brown 1980 I bought from a customer who wanted just slightly more for it than we would typically pay for a parts donor car about three years ago .... It has been almost a daily driver in addition last year My son in law and I both drove it in 8 of 11 POC short track events so it would do double sessions back to back 15-20 minute runs around a 1.1 mile track 3 or 4 per day before times laps . I was fortunate to finish first 5 times and second 3 times for 145 competition points which gave me the class H Improved Championship for the Porsche Owners Club 2002 . The car does look like a T#$D paint is 1/3 original , 1/3 respray ,1/3 clear coated repray ? That however is just part of the character and at least for me so much fun to line up for the timed runs in groups based on lap times and be surrounded by "Real Porsches" who have more invested in wheels and tires than I have in my 928 Yet we run similar lap times . The short track at Willow Springs is great fun but it is in the desert , sand and gravel are often kicked up on the track and the cars get blasted . That really makes it hard to consider painting the brown car ...besides then it would be "the chrome Yellow car " . It just would not be the same !!! I would have a very hard time taking a NICE car out on the track . The brown car is just too much fun !!!!! Which when I let someone "test drive" it Saturday (Sharktoberfest) they could not resist an little stop light acceleration test with a Vette ...... too funny . I heard the engine sounds saw a blur go by then heard the cheers from several people ..."The Brown car won ! the brown car won ! " .........the Corvette did not stop to chat .......too many 928s in the parking lot ?

Darn it! That would have been worth the 16 hours of travel time alone! Can we have an annual "Brown, Very Brown" takes on a Vette competition along with Sharktoberfest? Too bad nobody caught it on video.
