Blumaxx does not have a vin plate there either. I'm not sure when Porsche started putting the vin in that spot too.
Thanks for all of the responses.

My 82 has no cutout or marking in that location, but my GTS does. Here's a close up the one on the GTS. It's not stamped with a number punch, but looks like its been done to a number template with a mechanical needle punch engraver.

Probably the honorable thing to do. You want me to yank the stolen radio for you before they lock me up?

Probably should...the original owner will probably just remove it...and then throw it in the trash...like every 928 owner before him...lol.

looked at the car today. No VIN in the space. Not painted over, not stamped, no nothing. Strange. Reworked front clip maybe?

FWIW, my 1979 and my former 80 Euro didn't have it . The 81 and 83 do have it. I wonder if it coincided with the start of 17 digit VIN

Here's mine. The ZZZ freaked me out for a sec. Thought Brian may have jinxed my car into actually being stolen before I found that it was common for US spec cars to get the ZZZ stamp in the chassis. Phewww!

The started with the cut out location in the early 80's, not sure what year.
My 1980 still have it stamped behind the jump post.

Nate, the ZZZ is a Euro spec designation. US cars do not have that.

Don't think that is correct, both my 87s4 nd 93 GTS have the ZZZ in the number stamped in passenger fender. See pics below

I agree Ed, but not on the chassis VIN. I did some thread searching and ZZZ were stamped on the chassis before they knew what country the car was headed to.

Thanks Gents - that is most interesting, and the first I have heard of that.

My 83 has the number stamped in the portion of the chassis that is uncovered by the aluminum fender sheet metal. That way if I ever have to have fender replaced, The chassis serial number stays in place.
