CONGRATULATIONS!

Winning in a concours event is difficult enough, winning a national level event is next level!

Is this a fact? That in my view is sad news....

Yes. Karen Cooper announced it at the concours banquet. I can't remember who she said would take his place or if there was an interim fill.

She worked into the announcement with corporate-speak words about how they had been working to make the PCA organization more robust, then suggested - almost as just an example - that the current staff would manage during an interim without Pete. The crowd fell silent, undoubtedly troubled by this assertion.

He was so good, I often wondered if he was over-qualified for Panorama.

That's a little dramatic, don't you think? The crowd was silent already because they were listening to her speech. Amy Skogstrum, who was second in charge at Pano as Executive Editor, will serve as Interim Editor in Chief. There's a large team of folks who make Pano what it is. No doubt that the finding the correct leader is important but the current team has dealt with Editor in Chief transitions at the other magazines they worked at, Road and Track and Automobile. We'll miss Pete. He brought a change to Panorama that was desperately needed and quite appreciated. I'm sure whatever he does next will be a success. He's a great artist.

Curt, Thanks a million for putting the video together. And of course you can use our pics, I am honored to be able to contribute in a small way.

We got home last night, abut 6,000 miles round-trip. I wish I could report epic adventures, but the trip was mostly uneventful: Change oil, depart, drive cross-country (Google maps) swap driving every few hours and refuel in odd places. Then we spent a week washing car, doing concours, meeting up with some great folks, autocross, a couple of tours, banquets, met more great folks, then turn map over and drive home.

No good road trip would be worth anything without at least one cop story, we had two:
The first was on US2 in Philips County, Montana, nice two-lane highway with wide shoulders and zero traffic. I'm cruising along and an SUV comes over the rise. Three things happen simultaneously: Our Valentine starts chirping, the SUV's Christmas tree lights up, and I hit the brakes. The deputy does a three-point turn on the highway (like I said, zero traffic), writes me a ticket and says I can pay him the $20 bond. Gotta love Montana.

The second was in Fargo ND, the engine wasn't fully warmed up yet so Sue was actually fairly sedate getting on the on-ramp to I-94. The rear-view mirror lights up immediately and my sweety says something that sounds like "WTF, I'm not even speeding yet ?!?" and pulls onto the narrow shoulder. The nice young trooper comes up on the passenger (my) side and starts talking about window tint. He's got his tester with him, 39% !! Illegal he says, not so in our state we say. He says he is going to check the Wash state rules, I say something about turning around and driving around North Dakota, and Sue is trying to clamp a hand over my mouth for some reason. Slow day in Fargo.

Great trip, the car ran perfectly and we had a great time. Congrats to Bob and George, beautiful cars and really well presented! With Ron's GTS and Bertrand's and Curts S4 we had a terrific showing for 928s. Now we just need some early cars to round it out next year!! (Spokane, July 6-16)

Spokane? Cool, putting that on the calendar now, 12.5 months should be enough lead time to get a hall pass....

I'm glad to see that everything went well on your way back home.

3000 miles both ways is quite a trip!

It was real nice meeting Sue and you Jim (and all the other 928 owners of course).

I hope we'll have the chance to meet again.
