However it's been my experience that most 'DECENT' Ebay cars are not sold via BIN or Auction end that meet reserve. The well kept desireable, decent cars are sold "off" Ebay via contacting seller directly and making a deal. I have bought and sold a few high dollar cars via Ebay and never has it been through BIN or auction end. These 'off Ebay' transaction prices are not disclosed, but in my opinion are significantly higher across the board and in line with Haggerty valuations.
What's left on Ebay as sold through auction are usually marginal cars/fire sale for one reason or another. A lot of these also end up no-sale after buyer actually sees car and are re-listed.
The 'sold' listing prices are a red herring for actual transaction prices of decent cars, and not reflective of 928 values, or what they really trade for in 928 circles.

Slightly off-topic,
but I wonder how real-life-accurate the interior color is? It almost looks like it was photographed with a light red filter?
Might just be my 1980s TRS-80 computer monitor..
Anyway, does Porsche have a CURRENT factory interior option similar to this interior color? It's almost the shade of brown like a well-worn baseball glove....

As to the current factory option, I have not seen one with this color, but I have seen a beautiful darker color that does also look like a baseball glove color.

You bring up an interesting observation about the interior. The dash, consol, and rear consol colors all look like correct shades of camel. The seat colors look slightly different - like they were re-dyed or replaced at some point. This, coupled with some of the other observations here, would warrant a very close inspection before spending condition #1 money on an OB like this. It would need to check out on all the boxes.

This is a nice car but as noted has some issues that require pause. It also requires an inspection by an early 928 expert before purchase (fly out Jim Doerr to take a look? - money well spent).

Thanks for the clarifications Alex.

Was just cleaning the dash on my 84 and the odometer face is a different shade of black than the tachometer. Although, my attaching screws all seem to be identical on both gauges (no rust).

I think like the book Blink, we all are suspicious of items. For me the color on the third pad in the driver rear seat looks replace and the driver seats just look too fresh. There looks to be finger prints on the spedo. and the rolling of the digits seems to be weird. Yet the level of dirt on the engine is very low and from a heat and time standpoing I think this is a low mileage car. Its really just stunning. I love it.
Water damage in rear seat.

Comparison value...
My 78...(have the original air intake tubes in the basement for safe keeping)
This 79...
My mileage is being rolled back as we speak...lol. Unfortunately, someone power washed the engine...taking out the stickers.

Yes. Since so many cars on Ebay are not taken by buyers even when purchased. So it's better for buyers (to secure the sale on a car they want) and sellers (can get a deposit that's non-refundable). Nothing wrong with people, it's just that Ebay purchases were found to be non-binding in court.
A while ago I used ebay to sell a vintage guitar which was worth as much as an old 928. I had two people seriously interested - one was willing to go through the bid process and do the whole sale on ebay. The other refused to do so and kept pressuring me with personal emails to sell it to him off-site instead, so we could avoid "ebay fees" etc. I ultimately ignored the person who wanted to go off-site and sold it to the actual bidder. He paid and there was no problem. If the person who wanted me to go off-site had actually bid on the auction, then we would have had a real auction.

Thank you for the added details M. Brandon. While I have fervent hope that your car will sell at or near that price, my realist side says that it's a ~$35k car at the very best. Might want to advice your principle that sticking with that price is going to take a long, long, long time and you may have to wait for the value of the currency to decline to your price. I don't see anything wrong with a int panel being repaired to solve a sun fade, or cracking issue, it's part of regular care, and shows that someone took the car seriously. But - the 928 has been the red-headed step child for so long that market skepticism has worked it's ugly magic on the marque, and again - I think it will take a long, long time before the stigma(fiscal only) wears off. The 928 seems destined to be the bargain of the century for about another century.
(YMMV, don't try this at home, pro driver closed course, contents have settled, and may cause **** leakage)

I strongly disagree with Doc on his value assessment. Doc always goes low. Stick with your price and see what happens. Early pristine or near pristine cars are at a premium. And will continue to rise. Yes this one has a few funky things, like an apparent after market seam gasket on each inner fender in the engine bay, non original venturi tubes, after market exhaust, and a few other nits, overall it looks nice and appears to support the mileage claim.

/\/\/\/\ what Ed said.
If I were you I would also include pics of the original chipboard spare tire cover, the belts and spark plugs, gloves, spare tire bag , spare bulb kit and tire inflator that came with the car when new. All the little pieces that are a bitch to find once gone but usually included with well kept cars. I would also obtain a correct exhaust and intake tubes (although good luck with that one, but replacements are in the works - check with Jim Doerr or Drooman). Also paperwork (manuals, maintenance books, radio guide, etc.) and try to document any maintenance and mileage over the years. Build up the so called "provenance" that at the snooty auctions makes it a no-excuses car.
Great car and good luck - the price is right on if as described and how it looks in pics. I would also consider Ebay.de as these cars are going nuts over there.
Oh - yeah - for the love of god get those ugly a** gaskets off of there and get a jump post cover or face the wrath of the rennlist police.

Don't know if I am in 100% agreement here, since a lot of what is/might be missing on this car is/are extremely hard to find.
Without what Alex has already mentioned...I believe...rolls the price down some on this car.
If it has all/majority of these items and is unquestionably correct in 90% of it's originality...then maybe it is worth this asking price or more...or less. That's the markets job...to figure this out.
Pictures of everything Alex has mentioned and the underside in great detail...would be very helpful in answering important questions.

I gave every benefit of the doubt, gave the YMMV speech, even opined that I hope it sells for near asking - alas, to no avail. I guessed at it purely on market and condition, and then added $5k in a vain attempt to forestall trollery, I have failed.
Maybe Hemmings will be wrong by about a ~100%. Hey, it could happen...

You find me a true concourse '79 (I'm assuming one on a par with William's rebuilt Minerva or Ed's Blumaxx Original car) for 32.6k and I'll buy it. I doubt any of our guys with a true concourse original (Ed, Andrew, Brian, William) would sell even at 150-200% of that #...the only ones that come close on Mobile.de are 75-125k depending on colors.
