It was part of the deal with my wife that I take her back to Rome, Italy first, and then we can take the train up to Paris and then LeMans, France. So we will be arriving in LeMans next week Wednesday afternoon and staying in a Flexotel lodge inside the track circuit.

OK, so you will arrive just in time for Wednesday first test session (Part 1 & 2).
Then Thursday, you will see the second test session (Part 1 & 2).
Stay until the end of the second part! This is the moment where they are pushing hard for the pole position. The night is down but the temperatures are lower so the engine are breathing fresh air.
Also, they like
Friday, the pitlane is opened during the afternoon and you can see the cars and pilots close.
Then you HAVE to go to center of the city by tramway to watch the "Parade des Pilotes":

Saturday morning is quite busy with the warm-up, support races and then the start at 03:00 PM.
More details here:

Do you have places into a tribune?
I strongly advise to have comfortable shoes to walk, an umbrella, caps, sunglasses, solar cream, earplugs.
The Museum at the main entrance of the track is interesting and a quiet place for a break during the race.
Also, I can only advise to visit the old city (near the cathedral) during the Thursday afternoon.
Don't hesitate to ask if you any other question.
