Default Is this what the horn is supposed to sound like?

Just getting into looking at what works and what doesn't on the '84 I picked up. Doesn't run but hooked up some power to it and played with all the buttons. Horn blows but it kinda sounds weak. It's more like a loud buzzer than a horn. Here is a quick video. Is this normal for this year or not?

Thanks!

Nate

Normal sounds like a Chrysler horn, a nice big honk. Pretty cheap to buy new horns.

Mine is an 83 U.S. and it sounds pretty close to that. Makes my son laugh.

There are actually two horns, at different frequencies, right? It sorta sounds like you've only got the higher pitched one.

Mine is not the deepest sound in the world, but it still has a bit of a harmonious sound to it still...not just a single frequency high-pitched tone.

Both horns on my 84 are high pitch. Yours sounds like one of the two is working. Just a bit weaker than normal. They are located in front of the passenger side front tire, remove wheel-well panel and disconnect one horn at a time to use the process of elimination.

Change horns, cheap fix and you will get the right sound (really the same sound of my wire pt cruiser), not the italian bread delivery van.

Default 928 horn sound

This is what my '85 sounds like, I believe it to be authentic.
Of course , someone May chime in to dispute the fact.

Thanks guys. I hear can distinctly hear the two horns on Otis's '85. Brian, you are probably right, one of my horns is not working. I'll look into that. Now I just need to get it to run. Surprised no one commented on the engine sound in my video. I guess a 6-cylinder FJ40 engine sounds enough like a 928 at idle for no one to notice.

We're a very trusting crowd here, you say it ain't running...we believe you.

Now, if you would've said it was running and we heard nothing...we may have called you out...lol.

In my '79 only the high trumpet was working. Replaced both with a pair of Bad Boy air horns that have the compressor integrated with the trumpets, so 4 trumpets. They're very compact and very loud. Hooked them up using a SPDT relay with the initial horn wiring as the trigger and drawing current through the secondary fuse box I installed next to the OEM relay and fuse panel, so it draws power directly from the battery, but via this other fuse box.

Very loud and effective. Only problem is people keep looking for the 18-wheeler blowing the horn at them.
