Default No SITM for Me?

I wanted to check my 89 Gt gearbox fluid and saw this nice shiny gold nut on the passenger side and removed- Ooops I said as I heard a "clink" as something on the other end dropped into the bottom of the transmission. I presume the tranny has to come out to replace this part. Is this correct? Thanks and oh yeah this is my first 928 and I just ordered the work shop manuals.

I believe that is the pivot for the centering spring (centers the shift level left-right in neutral). Check the shifter action in neutral-- if it just flops left-right with no centering action then that was it.

That spring is big enough to jam the gears so don't try to go anywhere until it is sorted. I'm pretty sure the tranny will have to come out, what I don't know if the spring can be fished out without removing the gear sets.

There is no centering in neutral now so that must be it. So what I took out must be the adjuster. I'll stay at home and work on the car. Thanks so much.

I'm wondering why that nut was so...shiney,?, any history?
