Just happened to Thom Berkowski (85Euro928) on the way to SITM. At speed. In the driving rain. On a curve. He managed to snap the pin with a giant shot of adrenalin/superhuman 'I'm about to die'' strength. Now has to take his pod out and try and retrieve the pin here in the parking lot. I'll tell him about this thread and see if he chimes in.

Good news, turns out my steering wheel issue was with the brass ring on the back of the steering wheel that feeds power to the horn button, not the steering wheel lock. I just need to clean out the bits of brass and will be on my way.

If your contact ring is like that, then the other side of the contact is also worn on the lever assembly.

Both are available as spare parts - except for '89 where the lever assembly is a single unit (but I worked out a replacement on my '89 too using a file, some epoxy, and the repair part for 90-95 levers).

Thanks Hilton. My plan is to replace them both; the wheel with something more fitting to a mans hand.

Thom the reason this happened was because the turn switch wasnt adjusted properly.
This is due to a pod removal

So to adjust the switch,
with the lower pod cover removed place the steering wheel onto the shaft,
then press it down while looking up from under the wheel,
push the switch to the front of the car till the horn tab just makes contact with the steering wheel horn ring.
then set the switch bolt tight.
a dab of grease on the ring should make things smooth..
