No...

It's 4th in line for that title:

1. 914 - (it was a VW in Europe)
2. 924 - rejected VW / Audi project
3. 944 - rehashed 924 that was only possible borrowing from the 928 engine project
4. 928

Glad I could provide some comedy relief, that's what I'm here for ya know. So, you've been doing only Porsche all your life. Why didn't you grab up those $1500 356s? You had a chance at a half dozen or more $3000 911s. Maybe you aren't as smart a Porsche guy as you think. But - we aren't talking about 356s, or 911 - ARE WE?

The 928 is, was and always will be the red-headed poor step child of the fleet. People want to rant about the remarkable turn-around just on the horizon. Cinderella will be fitted with the glass slipper, and prices are going to go through the roof! It's happening, it's coming, it Will Be Here Soon! Get your's now before they are all gone.

Anyone around for the runup in the XKE market? Remember when the 'experts' were predicting half million dollars for ANY XKE? Then, the market cratered, and a bunch of rich folks got caught with there ***** hanging out and every XKE ever built was for sale, and tanked the market. I remember.

Sure, there are going to be special cars. There are going to be the 6th sigma cars that are worth +$20k. Out of a universe of thousands, there are going to be a couple that will bring that money. Willhoit seems to find them pretty often, but even there - they are not raking in Ferrari money. Or even 930 money very often.

I don't mind that there are good cars for sale. I'm all for it. But let's look at this thread. The car is for sale for $6k. Suppose he gets his price, and an actual 'restorer'(not like me) starts in on it. By the time the car is ready to show, it's so far underwater they will drown.

So, I've said my piece, and all water under the bridge. I'm buying 928s for fun and small profit. trying to keep them out of Mark's hands, and putting them back in the fold. Peace out.
Only time will tell.

I can tell you this:

I was very, very busy before this little "upsurge" in the 928 market started.

Now it's just stupid. I could literally triple the size of my shop and hire a bunch more qualified people....and still be buried. The problem...."qualified 928 people" are very few and far between. 356 and 911 mechanics have always been a dime a dozen....those things are like working on lawnmowers.....anyone can do it. 928 mechanics....always been tough to find.

I hear ya on that. Roger and Sean are like zombies, they're so busy.

I'll come work for ya. I got a full set of hammers, air-chisels, adjustable wrenches from Sears, and Duct tape. Lots, and lots of rolls of Duct tape.

When do I start?

Oh....is that why the 911 Turbo 3.6 is so worthless compared to the rest of the 911's? Because they made / sold so few of them?

I think your participation trophy is taller than mine.

Any data is only as good as how it is interpreted.

You are making a case the 928 is the red headed stepchild of the Porsche family based on production numbers. In this case, compared to three recycled Volkswagen projects sold at bargain basement prices to save the company. Yes somehow with your logic these three models are better respected by the Porsche world?

Did I miss something? Are 1979 924's suddenly selling for more money than 928's?

Did Lart hijack Doc's account?

Well a certain restored 86.5 just hammered at a cool $52K, so there must be something going on in the shark world.

And when was the last time that happened?

The prices on these things are going crazy. The money people are now spending on them woulld have been crazy six months ago.

The whole "early 911 thing" where decent cars went from $10,000 to over $100,000 happened in what....six months....maybe a year?

This is really interesting... the idea of love versus money. I guess the easiest thing would be to just love money ! LOL !

It does make me feel happy that my dear old 928 is just a
non-collectable, patched-together, maybe-someday-fun-driver. I
would really have a lot of issues
if I thought that I was actively "fixing" (I use that word VERY LOOSELY)
a desirable, collector's car...
I probably wouldn't even want the car if that were the dilemma...

But I do hope that guys who have spent the effort and $$$$ on the special 928s have a good chance at recovery on investment. As long as I can still find replacement parts for the replacement parts I am currently breaking....

You guys are brutal... 944 and 944 turbos are great cars . You guys sound like the people who talk negative about 928's but have never even sat in one .. And 914-6 and 914 2.0 have been rising in value for a few years . I'm selling my 73 2.0 this summer to buy more 928's ..lol

I have a 944S - my comments have no bearing on how I personally feel about those cars.

I've always thought it would be fun to get an early 924 but I have a Scirocco already.... kinda of in the same general theme.

This 6-12 month sudden 50-250% price hike started on seventies cars and has been moving towards never models. On some cars it already on early '00 models while on others its still in '70ies cars. But on all fronts prices have gone up. At the moment market seems to settle down a little. So either bubble is about to burst or upwards trend will return shortly. In any case we are living at interesting times regarding 928 pricing.
