Default Google Photos - Documenting my engine swap...(fixed)

After six long months of weekends of disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling a used 928INTL engine to replace an overheated seized one, I finally got the 928 back and running.

I did a cool little 2 minute movie using Movie Maker from the Google Photo mobile app. neat way to share the passions and frustrations that fill our weekends with your non-car friends.

If you have 2 minutes to kill...

Mark, I had a MASSIVE overheating failure which led to coolant dumping right into the combustion chamber. Believe it or not, after it cooled, the car would actually start, but was pumping water out the exhaust pipe like a faucet. I've never seen anything like it.

So when I pulled the exhaust pipe that was all the water that had collected between the header and muffler.

Honestly I have not pulled the old heads yet to see if the failure is a cracked cylinder wall or what. Either way, I figured with a failure that bad, I was not going to try to rebuild the original engine. I've heard from several sources that once aluminum undergoes such an extensive overheating event, its not a good idea to rebuild. That's why I started with a used 928INTL engine for the project.

Luckily the 16V engines are pretty cheap, especially when you buy them during the half-price Thanksgiving sale.
