Thanks Mark. It could be a great deal........or not. Unknown provenance. I have never had this installed in a car.

I have another option for the right price. I picked up a 85 5 sp with a blown motor. When we ran the VIN (here) it showed option 220. Working odo showed 79,XXX. I would need $2600 plus shipping for that one and it is still in the car. It would be pulled this weekend and shipped Monday.

Standing on its end I can find R/1, 2/3, 4/5 without any problem, but again that is with nothing moving on the inside. It is not a LSD but I could ship it out this week if you need it. Pics on request.
\is this an S4 or a 85-86 gear box..

thanks for the info... as you might have heard, im looking for a transmissio for a friend with a blown 85 gear box AND, always keeping my eye out for a 5th gear for an s4 so i can rebuild the Holbert transmission.

My 84 doesn't like going into 2nd when cold, which is why I skip to 3rd until everything heats up and then 2nd gear works perfectly fine. Any thoughts? I am also thinking synchronizer ring.

I am sorry but I don't know the model year. I cleaned the spine to try and get a pic of the numbers but they seem to be worn. There is a clean number inside the flange that would attach to the torque tube. I'm not sure if that would be specific to a model year or not. I will be glad to get that for you and take additional pictures if requested.

The LSd box is definitely 1985 and is currently installed in the original car.

I do this on my 911 in winter. I believe it's a function of the baulk ring type of synchronizer design, but just a way to get through the cold days. If it works well warm, I would just keep doing what you're doing.

Hey Mark Kibort and Greg Brown --
Thank you for taking my calls and helping me sort out how to fix the 928. Mark, per your suggestions, I got the new tranny from Greg Brown (who was very patient and thorough on the phone), the rebuilt TT from 928 Intl, and the new clutch. My guys at Pacific Power Motorsports (Eric and John) did the deed and installed the whole thing, and now the beast is back on the road. I've had the car for 16 years, and very happy to know it will keep on cranking for years to come.
REALLY appreciate having yours and everyone's expertise here! What a great community with a common passion. THANK YOU for helping keep mine alive!
