Mystery screech inside the cabin
Here's a weird one. Cruising along the other day in the '87 928; probably going at 60 kph steady... all of a sudden an ear-piercing screech from inside the cabin.
Scared the crap out of me... I literally jumped in my seat because everything was so mellow at the time. It was a short quick sound like someone stepped on a puppies tail. Like a yelp. It came from either the shifter area or the fuse-box in passenger foot-well. Maybe the blower motor? It was on setting 2 at the time, blowing heat.
Otherwise there was NO other evidence of an odd occurrence... There was no smell, no weird gauge readings, no change in feel or performance of the car. No squished animals in the rear-view either. Just had me scratching my head when I parked it, walking around the thing.
anyone ever had anything similar?
Jase.

Sounds like it is something in the blower having a temporary glitch.
Whether it is in the driver or the impeller section of the blower others may know better.

"Yep, interior temp sensor fan motor, just before it seized and let out all its smoke."
A real possibility - and it might be well worth-while to clean it and lubricate the bearings (with a real lubricant, not WD-40).
