I succesfully installed the later inserts (used) from a 95 GTS with the original trim strips on my 88SE - easy job.

Hi Nicole;

Thanks for the response.

I was concerned with the black foam insert though which is present on my 90 as I have just replaced my windshield and need to re-position these inserts.

One end is blunt and the other tapered, I am thinking the tapered end would go towards the bottom of the windshield, however there is no WSM description of this piece and its orientation.

Yes, acts like a water drain for he windshield at speed. Possible esthetics for function ?...

There is a pic that I posted in that previous thread that I linked to, but here it is again.

The pic is before I redid the upper section, which had slid back under the top trim ... but it shows the side and corner. You can also see a separate small trim piece on the outside radius.

Hi Dave;

I don't have this type of windshield gasket on my 90 GT. I have a small thin foam strip which is recessed under the A-pillar trim. It has a blunt end and a tapered end.
My question was what is the orientation of this foam gasket strip. I believe now that I have studied it more and tried different configurations that the tapered end should be at the top of the windshield.

Yep, I had also wondered about this gap on my S4 MY89. The windscreen has been replaced at some stage in the past and on one side I have what looks to be a foam insert and on the LHS I have nothing. Think I might acquire the later model rubber inserts to provide a better finish to this aspect of the car.

Cheers

Correction:

Upon further forensic review I have noticed a faint phillips head screw imprint on the tapered end of the
foam type insert gasket. This screw is one of two which secures the bottom windshield base plate.
Therefore the tapered end does indeed go towards the bottom of the windshield.
