Selling 1984 928S A/T Chiffon White
I’ve decided it’s time to sell my Chiffon White ’84 928S (auto trans/Champagne leather interior). I just turned 69 and due to arthritis can no longer enjoy wrenching like I used to. I am the third owner, buying from a good friend in 1999. I drove it to work daily (when no rain was in forecast) from my home garage 15 miles to an underground garage at work until 2004, when I retired. Every summer I had to have the A/C charged (at Zim’s). Since 2004 I’ve driven it three or four times a year and have not had the A/C serviced/recharged. The odometer stopped working around 2005 at 103,422 miles (I have the replacement gear). Due to its age, Texas annual inspection no longer requires emissions testing but it always passed cleanly up to its 25th year (2009) when it became exempt. State inspection and licensing is current. I replaced T-belt, water pump and motor mounts in 2002-3 @ 101,000 miles. I have since checked and adjusted T-belt tension. Kempf tool comes with purchase. Price is $5500.
Following is a list of items that come with the car:
Complete factory tool tray
Factory collapsible spare tire, compressor, jack and lug wrench
Black vinyl bra (I never used it)
Service fender covers
Full set of brake pads
Replacement hood insulation pad
Kempf tool
Flywheel lock
Replacement cover for under-hood blower-motor tray
Replacement odometer gear
Original window sticker / owner manual / keys
CD Service manuals (Thanks to Jim Morehouse)
Fuses, oil filters (& crush ring)
What does it need?
Odometer gear replacement (see above).
Last year the ! warning light came on and the brake pads message in the instrument panel lit up. Pressing the ! warning light makes it and the brake pads warning go away. I bought new pads but have not installed them. I had the pad thickness checked in Feb’16 at state inspection. Mechanic said they looked good and did not need replacing. I was going to clean all ground points but now realize I am not physically able to do it.
It weeps a little oil and A/T fluid (It has since I bought it in 1999). I park it over a tray of kitty litter. Each year I check and add a little A/T fluid. I think if it’s driven more often, the tranny seals will do their job better.
As I wrote above, A/C needs to be checked for leaks and charged.
Rear window wiper does not return to rest position when turned off. Not a problem for me…I never drove it in the rain. Turned it on by accident reaching for the window switch.
Rear hatch does not open with key, but does by using the switch by the driver’s seat. Been this way since 1999 and I have no idea why.
That’s the GOOD and the BAD. There is no UGLY! This is a beautiful auto. The paint looks new. PO had minor repair to driver front quarter panel due to hitting debris on freeway, but repair was done right. Driver seat bolster shows honest wear. I promise the purchaser will be surprised by the compliments of complete strangers whenever she is shined up and taken out.
Price is $5500. Send a PM if interested.
Thanks, Dave Goyne

Geez that is sweet- white is very much in vogue with some marquees and I have to think was rare on 928 back in those days. Ands no rub strips is awesome. Looks very well cared for, hope it stays in the 'community', thanks for posting here!

Anyway, beautiful car and looks like the typical catch-up maintenance, then enjoy the beautiful paint and interior.

Wow! Your price is way to low in my humble opinion. Very sharp/clean looking car.
All of those issues you mention, are barely issues honestly. Not for the average DIY 928 types anyway.
It should sell fast. An 84 was my first 928, always loved the way it drove.
