The C2 Cup1 wheels standard on the early GTS (my favorite looking stock wheel) are one piece and 7.5" wide ET65 offset on the fronts and 9" wide ET55 on the back.

Stock tire sizes are 225/45R17 & 255/40R17.

You can easily fit 235/45R17's and 275/40R17's on a GTS with stock spacers. The rolling radius is a little off, but there is nothing closer at these widths.

Wider sections tires depend on the shoulder design and the min mounting width - but most tire manufacturers don't recommend wider on these width rims, (and the choices on 17's are diminishing fast). However The 275's do fit very well with lots of room on a GTS.

Alan,

You are referring the stock Speedline GTS wheels that came with the car.

Speedline also offered Cup1 wheels that are 17 inch x 9.5 inch x ET68. I doubt they are still available as new items today but....?

As I am aware they could be ordered through Porsche part number 965.362.128.05 although whether Porsche sanctioned them for use on the GTS I am not sure on that one [probably not]. Devek used to offer them for about $5k a set when they were still in business and they would carry a 255 section up front and a 275 section at the rear.

The stock Cup1 wheels can carry a 235 as I had on mine and I also ran with a 265 on the rear- they worked well.

However Marti is looking for something beyond that limitation and those 9.5 inch Cup 1's are the only thing I have come across that were OEM Porsche supplied kit albeit not necessarily for the 928.

I am only looking at 18" as I know 17" tyre sizes are reducing and I am looking to go over 275 size on the rear.

I am interested in getting a set of light weight wheels, my stand in wheels will be used to assess offsets and widths. I didn't want to commit to spending a lot of money on wheels without being 100 sure on sizes. My front stand in wheels are 8.5" wide and 55 et which I think is just outside the optimum setup.

I am pretty sure that you will only be interested in something along the lines I use but as Alan says, the Cup 1 wheels are very Porsche like and look the part. Unfortunately they are the only Porsche OEM wheel with a correct offset and suitable for front usage if you work on the basis that front wheels are effectively limited to a maximum of 9.5 inches width. If you think you can fit a 10 inch section up front then there are Porsche options.

Needless to say one piece wheels with correct offsets are somewhat heavy to support the greater overturning moments such offset imparts- thus the three piece forged concept that beings the weight back down to about 10kg - i.e. more or less the same as the stock skinny items.

Kinesis used to make some really nice wheels but the owner sold up and as I understand his business then went to rat. Not sure what our key suppliers offer but they are invariably from outfits like Fikse. Mark Kibbort's wheels are also quite nice but not sure what make they are [Kinesis?]. Mine were made by RD Sport- a BMW outfit who also did custom wheels for Porsche- no idea if they are still in business- not so good if I need a new rim section! No problem with 18 inch wheels with these outfits.

I am progressing with the interior. Picture of the back seat area with new leather panels fitted.

I am carrying out a colour change so it's important to change all these underlying covers to make sure it's the same as the factory look

I am working on the seats and rear console, hopefully pictures to follow soon

Progress has slowed somewhat over September due to other commitments. I have managed to complete the recovering of some interior parts. The back seats and console are taking shape.

Rear outboard cover and top part of the seat fitted

Finally recovered the rear console and fitted the lid. Quite a tricky job.

Second rear seat, centre console and other outboard panel fitted

I had a lot of work to carry out on the front console which had very common problems that I see with many 928s. The problems are mainly age related and therefore can affect any 928 given the last were produced in 1995.

The problems I had to address were
1. Vinyl covering was lifting from edges of the console due to glue aging
2. Side mounting tabs were damaged
3. Dashboard covering was lifting at the joint with the centre console
4. The foam gasket at the joint between the console and the dashboard air duct was perishing

Thankfully I didn't have any damage or issues which could not be rectified. Some of the above is more visual and therefore noticeable, particularly the lifting of the dashboard. Others are more subtle but do affect the overall look.

The gluing of the vinyl on the console was fairly straightforward but did need to be clamped overnight to ensure the cover did not pull back.

The lifting of the dashboard covering required additional securing over and above gluing. With the console removed I was able to get the glue into the open joint between the cover and the metal chassis of the dash. In addition to gluing ( which failed to hold 1st time round) I also riveted the cover using small rivets which are hidden when the console is in place.

The picture shows the console in place which was going through wiring of the new stereo which is a Becker Indianapolis Pro

Hi Marti

One day could be sooner rather than later, I read the thread about the issue you are having and could test your LH unit on my S4 to eliminate it from the equation. Tie it in with a little visit?

Let me know if I can help.

Cheers

Started fitting out the speaker system.

As detailed on various speaker threads this is a pain in the *** due to where and how these are fitted.

Pictures below show the bass speaker new and old, these are a significant upgrade on the originals and fit in the original holders. They are a lot heavier with a lower frequency ability.

They are part of a 3 way Focal component set. I will follow up with pictures of the tweeter and midrange speakers.

The below wheels are being used on a temporary basis to check sizes and off sets. The intention is to evaluate sizes before investing in a new set.

IMHO it is an improvement on the standard S4 wheels. I like the GTS cup design but I am looking for 18” size which has a better range of tyres available. It’s a real shame they didn’t make the cup wheels in 18” single piece, I would prefer these to any 3 piece variant available today.

I am also watching the teledial project with interest as they could be a real option once they get off the ground

A quick picture of the rear “stand in” wheel in place.

More progress with the back seats. Every time I fit a new cover I am always impressed with the quality Paul Champagne has produced.
