Default Motor Mount change out - full inch height gain

Just completed the motor mount and OPG change out with my Son and Son-in-Law ( 14 hours ). Got the MM's and OPG Stud Kit from Roger. Outstanding pieces of Kit.

We recorded a full inch of height difference. Used the motor serial number plate as the base and the upper cross bar for the height measurement.

I'm hoping this is just an indication of how trashed the old mounts were. In reading a lot of the MM posts, most seemed to be in the 1/2 inch range for the difference. Anything I should be concerned with on this? Thanks.

If you used the volvo ones, they sit higher than OEM.

Which is fine, unless you install some of the aftermarket intake kits, or anything else that must fit between the engine brace and the engine..or sometimes pulling/installing the MAF can then be a pain..

All minor issues.

I have a n00b question:

When you renew the motor mounts, does that change in engine position put any "new" stress or strain on the rest of the powertrain?

Thanks,
Dan

^ Agree...I replaced the trans mounts to keep the driveline as level as possible.

When checking the heat shields they seemed to be in pretty good shape. But now that I got to thinking about it, is there any recommendation in terms of how far away from these motor mounts those shields should be?

Just wondering how much of the old motor mount deformation was due to being 31 years of service vs a problem with over heating.

^^^ This. They get tired. I think heat is a minor issue as long as the heat-shields are in place.

Double check that the power steering hose is not rubbing. I seem to recall an old thread that mentioned a rubbing issue that developed when the engine height changed. It does not seem to be a common issue, but I would make sure.

It may have been a missing wire bracket on the PS pump that led to the failure. The thread never came full circle to fully resolve.

Just worth checking, that's all.
