Default Sadly, this is not the first time I've done this...

...trapped the closed end of a racheting wrench between a pulley and accessory by backing the bolt out.

Nothing slow about it I do things like this quickly, doing it correct first time usually doesn't happen. However it is a real treat when it does.

And that right there...is why...after thirty eight years of wrenching for a living...I don't own a set of racheting wrenches.

I assume it can't be reversed without removal first? Do you have a pulley puller?

Good luck.

One of my favorite stories is about another mechanic I was working with and he was replacing the brake lines (steel) on a vehicle. Cars on the hoist and we're both standing there talking, while he is tightening the lines and union...with box-end wrenches.

Deputy you are missing out on great tools if you never try the Gearwrench type wrenches. They are great. I used to wrench for a living and wish they were around back then. All they had were crappy Craftsman ones that had too much travel and too much drag.

BTDT

And that is why you should only buy the reversible ratcheting wrenches...

Now, I do have a few mechanical-reversible racheting wrenches...but no flip-over-to-reverse-motion racheting wrenches.

I did this during my timing belt adventure! Glad I'm not the only one...

Took me a second. That's funny as hell, because of course I have never done anything like this

Only done that once and I can't remember how I got out of it now but I do remember it took a long time to do it without cutting things up.

Still got 4 sets of non-reversible ratchet spanners including a premium set of friction based spanners that are the equivalent of something around 360 teeth geared ones

My first Gearwrench turned the job of getting those last few nearly hidden oil pan bolts out with a standard open end wrench a face at a time over an hour or so into a couple of minutes. I was sold, although know all about getting them trapped as shown here. Watching old school wrench purist turning bolts like these a face at a time is exasperating. Gearwrench is second only to my favorite time and swear saver, the twist action rotator ratchet that allows me to quickly spin bolts on or off in tight spots where there is no room to swing the ratchet arm, such as the upper two bolts that hold the torque tube to the bellhousing, a truly tight space. With a standard wrench or ratchet, you see why you Porsche would mount the bellhousing to the torque tube with the engine removed from the car.

Haven't done that yet. I'm sure the day is coming.
