Does anyone know if the S4 automatic gear shifter cable part number 928 426 033 04 can be used in a 1985 euro S2. The correct part number for the S2 is either 928 426 033 06 or the older 928 426 033 03. I understand that the S4 cable is a bit longer than the S2, hence the reason for my request.

Sorry to bump this, but I cant believe nobody has an opinion (102 looks so far). The parts look pretty much the same on the PET. I have the opportunity to get a good used one at about 1/7 the price of new, but obviously would be money wasted if it doesnt fit properly.

When I swapped an '89 A/T into my 86.5 I had to change the connector at the transmission. At least that is what I remember...

My understanding is the connector is different so you need to take both cables to a shop that makes automotive cables. They can get the correct length off your original and add the correct end. I bought a second hand out of an 88 for my 86.5. The seller left the connector in the gear box but cut the cable as it wasn't going to fit anyway. Haven't done it yet so interested to see how you go.
Had to get my accelerator cable rebuilt as they are NLA. Just gave them the old one and they reused the connectors and renewed everything else.

I dont want to take out the old one until I can get the correct replacement. If I cant get a good used one, then I guess I'll have to get a new one from Porsche. Only catch, Big Bucks !!!

Back in the day I bought a kit that included the cable and cable clamp. You remove the old cable, slid the new one in from the rear and cut to length. I bought mine from 928 Specialists. I bet they still can get them.

Following on Bogdanns advice, I searched the internet and found the only auto cable manufacturer in Ireland. He assures me he can make a replica cable from the old one including all boots, adjusters and end pieces for about a fifth of the Porsche price. Dont know where I would be without all the Rennlisters who have solved multiple problems successfully for me.

Standing in the garage, looking a a non-running car, asking myself "Why did I think this was a good idea?"
Not that I don't do that from time to time, but at least I have confidence that I'll be able to get it running again.
